Mauro Diaz: This week, my and captain picks and the captain poll line up exactly and at the top of that list is Mauro Diaz. Dallas did not have a very active preseason, but Diaz performed well in the few matches they had scoring 2 totals and earning an assist. Their season opener is against Philly, which spent most of the preseason reworking their squad and will not have their first choice defenders available to them in Round 1. It’s important to remember that preseason results do not always directly relate to how a team will start the regular season, but Dallas has a history of coming out of the gate strong and if Diaz stays on his preseason form, he should open the fantasy season with a strong score.

Sebastian Giovinco: When I make my captain picks, I tend to lean toward the players who are playing at home. Well, Giovinco will not be doing that for the first couple of months so I guess I’ll make an exception. Not only are Gio’s 2015 numbers hard to ignore, but he is one of the players who stands to gain the most from the 2016 changes. Their season opener against the Red Bulls is not the easiest, but New York has made some changes to their defense so Gio could come away with some nice offensive number.

David Villa: In the first version of this post, Kaka came in at the #2 spot, but with the news that he will not be available for Round 1, I’ve had to make some changes. Enter David Villa. He came in as a distant 4th in the poll and most of the people who advocate for him are actually advocating more against Chicago. I can understand this. Chicago did quite poorly in the 2015 season and many are expecting more of the same for 2016. But a word of caution, The Fire have had a strong Preseason, at least on the offensive side, so they may not be the pushovers many expect.
