Hey everyone. I’ve seen a lot of questions about the wildcard situation this year so I thought I would whip up a quick wildcards 101 image that I hope puts things into a bit better of a perspective than perhaps the MLS Fantasy Rules page does.

I answered this question over at r/FantasyMLS a few weeks ago, so if you want to view that, and the rest of the wildcard discussion, just follow this link and give it a read.

2016 Wildcards 101

There are two types of wildcards in the MLS Fantasy Manager game and I’ve chosen to identify them in the following ways. 1) the Fixed Wildcard which can only be used the specific round that is is assigned to and 2) the Any Time Wildcard which can be used during any round over a set group of rounds.

As with all wildcards, they become active AFTER the previous round has ended and stay active until the start of the round in which they are assigned (or activated in the case of an Any Time WC). Two additional features of using your wildcard are that you will have three free trades in the following round and you may activate it even after you have made and accepted transfers in a round.

Example for the second: I make 3 transfers for Round 10 and take a -4. I then see that 3 additional players are injured. I go back and make three more transfers and activate my WC. I have now successfully avoided the injuries and take no point penalties for Round 10.
