MLSFB Player Roundup – Round 23

It’s almost time for Round 23 and just like 22, there are no DGWs. But don’t worry there will be more DGW action coming back soon. It was actually nice to see the return of some shutouts in Round 22 but, unfortunately, it was not either of the keepers I was running. Could this be a sign of better things to come when it comes to keepers? Perhaps, but I think most of the matches in Round 23 could see goals on both sides.

Let’s break things down each position.

Keepers:

Nick Rimando still tops my list, even with a difficult match against Seattle coming up. His last two games have been shutouts, but he was only allowing 1 goal before that. He’s an expensive option, but a solid choice.  Next take a look at David Ousted. Like Rimando, his last two games have been shutouts, but unlike Rimando, he faces a much easier game against Chivas. I know what you are thinking; Chivas has a habit of grabbing those sneaky goals, but this is a good matchup. Finally, I’m tipping Bill Hamid. I know they lost their last two, but hear me out on this one. DC has one of the best records when it comes to not allowing goals at home, and Colorado is averaging just over 1 per game. It’s a long shot, but it could pay off.

Defenders:

My defender picks are going to come from identical teams as my keepers above. Chris Schuler and Nat Borchers are your best RSL picks. You can’t count of Schuler scoring two goals each game, but both have the ability to get good CBI returns, especially against a big team like Seattle. Vancouver offers some of the best value picks with two quality picks in Johnny Loveron and now healthy Andy O’Brien.  Both have great CBI potential and are under $6.6m. But if we’re talking value, look no further than DC’s Steve Birnbaum who has been starting regularly, earning bonus points, and is under $5.0m.

Midfielders:

All of the big boys are playing this week, but not all of them are at home or have easy games. Even with an away game, LA still has two good options to consider, depending on your budget. GyasiZardes and the man with a short-term memory problem, LandonDonovan. Both are on good goal scoring form, and there is a DGW coming up fo LA. Now could be a good time to buy and then earn some value for Round 24. Vancouver was mentioned earlier, and I still like their offensive potential against Chivas even more. PedroMorales is a good pick for this week now that he seems to be finding some form again. Finally, I’m actually a fan of BradDavis vs Philly. This should be a pretty good game… no really. Houston has had NO LUCK on the road, but their last few home games show that they still have some fight.

Forwards:

Manager favorite Bradley Wright-Phillips is on a BYE this week, so that will require some lineup changes. I don’t think you need to drop him, but this could be a 2 forward round for many. If  you don’t already have him, take a look at Joao Plata. I’ve been mention him for a few weeks but that is because he’s been scoring and Seattle actually has one of the worst records when it comes to allowing away goals. If you’re already thinking abut the DGW in Round 24, then grab Wondo if you have the cash. Dallas is not the easiest on the road, but Wondo has been in some nice form for the last several weeks. Finally, I’m sticking with my man Robbie Keane. HE scores goals and Columbus has not been great at stopping them.
