Boss’ Breakdown – Round 21

Boss' Breakdown - Round 21

Franchise firsts, broken streaks, and player debuts are just some of the highlights of Round 21. If you missed anything, the FMLS talking points of each match are below!

New York City FC (5) – (1) Colorado Rapids

MOTM – Frank Lampard ($10.6) 17pts
Lampard, same as all those time at Chelsea, continues to find himself in the right spot in the box. He didn’t waste any chances en route to completing NYCFc’s first hat-trick in franchise history. The team as a whole is in form and doesn’t look to be slowing down.

WATCHLIST – Colorado Defense
Colorado’s unbeaten steak came to an end is ridiculous fashion, but I expect them to bounce back as soon as the next round as they host the inconsistent Whitecaps.

Sporting Kansas City (1) – (0) Portland Timbers

MOTM – Benny Feilhaber ($11.4) 8pts
Benny patrolled the midfield and accumulated both attacking and defensive bonus points. With all the (potential) changes around him in the midfield and forward line, look for Benny to continue grinding out scores such as these.

WATCHLIST – Alex Kann ($4.6) 6pts
Kann filled in very nicely for the injured Melia (back spasms). Melias injury timetable is an MLSFI favorite, unknown! If its an extended absence, Kann could be another cheap GK option.

Seattle Sounders (1) – (1) Los Angeles Galaxy

MOTM – Cristian Roldan ($5.7) 8pts
Roldan has continued to get steady minutes and with the debut of attacker Nicolas Lodeiro, the Seattle attack’s potential for points is certainly on the rise. His price point is a perfect option for a 5th mid who is occasionally needed when rotation problems arise.

WATCHLIST – Gyasi Zardes ($9.7) 0pts
Zardes missed the match with a previously undisclosed chest injury. Be sure to follow @MLSInjuryNews to see the latest on his status and those around the league as well.

FC Dallas (2) – (0) Vancouver Whitecaps

MOTM – Kellyn Acosta ($7.2) 11pts
Acosta scored well across the board notching passing, shots taken, defensive, and pass completion bonus points. The quality throughout Dallas’ midfield will mean he won’t be scoring consistently, but he’s certainly a cheap and steady option.

WATCHLIST – Fabian Castillo ($11.2) 0pts
Castillo’s apparent move to Turkey has stalled and will be back with FC Dallas in the coming weeks. The rich stay richer?!

D.C United (1) – (1) Montreal Impact

MOTM – Patrick Mullins ($6.4) 6pts
Mullins had a fairytale start to his DC career scoring in his first match. Their next three matches are at home so Mullins has potential to be an intriguing 3rd striker option.

WATCHLIST – Didier Drogba (11.9) 0pts
Drogba followed up his hat trick with a straight red card which will see him suspended for the next round. Once again, be sure to follow @MLSInjuryNews to see if his suspension gets extended.

Chicago Fire (2) – (2)  New York Red Bulls

MOTM – David Accam ($9.2) 9pts
Accam looked all the guy we wanted in our squads at the beginning of the year, dazzling with dribbles and passes throughout. Accam and Chicago look to break their road-losing streak next round and it surely will eventually come from a bit of Accam magic, whenever that may be.

WATCHLIST – Bradley Wright-Phillips ($11.3) 7pts
BWP stole a draw for NYRB at the death and continued his streak of attacking returns to 4 games straight. Although they travel to LA next round, I expect the overall form of NYRB to prevail and BWP to be involved in the points.

Philadelphia Union (1) – (2) Real Salt Lake

MOTM – Javier Morales ($10.7) 7pts
Jorales is showing glimpses of yesteryear, especially with that chipped goal to seal the victory. RSL has a DGW in Round 22 and assuming Jorales is on PKs, he could be a good premium midfield option.

WATCHLIST – Joao Plata ($9.6) 8pts
Plata is rounding into form at just the right time! Two straight games with attacking returns and near certain game time with Yura out injured, Plata is absolutely worth a look next round.

Orlando City SC (3) – (1) New England Revolution

MOTM – Kevin Molino ($8.8) 17pts
Molino has been on a bit of a hot streak. With the arrival of Kries, coupled with Kaka regaining form, he looks primed to continue with his outstanding attacking returns!

WATCHLIST – Cyle Larin ($9.7) 7pts
Larin showcased his lack of a week foot with a low shot across goal to score his 3rd goal in as many games. Much like Molino, Larin is riding a run of form and it looks likely to continue as Seattle is visiting next round.

Toronto FC (3) – (0) Columbus Crew

MOTM – Sebastian Giovinco ($13.4) 16pts
Gio doing Gio things. If it weren’t for Endoh’s mohawk, he might have had another 20+ pt match. He is with out a shred of doubt, essential, for Toronto’s DGW next round.

WATCHLIST – Jozy Altidore ($9.4) 6pts
Jozy was healthy enough to come on as a substitute and looked very lively. Toronto has a DGW in Round 22, and with Jozy having less than 1% ownership, he could be a sneaky pickup.

Houston Dynamo (1) – (1) San Jose Earthquakes

MOTM – Chris Wondolowski ($10.8 ) 7pts
Wondo seems to be starting another one of his goal streaks. Could be wise to jump on the train now!

WATCHLIST – Giles Barnes ($8.4) 0pts
Barnes was sold to Vancouver who will push for a starting spot in any of the attacking mid or forward positions. As for Houston, it looks as though the much-maligned Will Bruin will be leading the line!
