KFC’s Fantasy MLS Forward picks – Week 8 (Double Game Special)

Forwards were mostly quite last week and a few of our picks were added to injury lists after we posted our article. We’re not really a huge fan of many forwards right now; we just see better points from the midfield and defender positions. We still feel like a formation with one forward can get the best point results, but that is not always an option. For this week, we think having at least one DGW forward would be good.

Big 3
Chris Wondolowski (SJ v POR), Robert Earnshaw (TOR vs HOU), and Federico Higuaín (CHI vs CLB).

Claudio Bieler (Kansas City) vs New York/Los Angeles
Price: $9.3m
Owned by: 9.6%

We think Bieler will be one of the more popular choices for this DGW. He’s in good form, in the top 5 total points for forwards, under $10m, and was on a bye last week. The only reason you might not want Bieler is the hope that doubling up on your SKC midfield or defense will result in more points. This could very well be the case since those positions have much better bonus point generating ability.

Thierry Henry (New York) vs Kansas City/New England
Price: $10.4m
Owned by: 16.4%

If you are not running with Bieler up front, this is the next option. He’s more expensive but is starting to find some form. New York will be playing a lot of games over the next few days, so play time could be a concern here. If you’re looking for a NY budget option there is always Fabian Espindola, but he’s been quiet since the start of the season.

Deshorn Brown (Colorado) vs Seattle
Price: $6.2m
Owned by: 15.5%

Brown has been very impressive this season, and has been a regular in the top 5 statistics for shots and shots on target. Seattle has also been very impressive in how poorly they are playing (sorry sounders fans). We think all of this gives Brown a good shot at some points. Even is not, he’s under $7m, so he could free up some cash if you are trying to bring in some other DGW players.

Differential

Adam Jahn (San Jose) vs Portland      
Price: $5.4m
Owned by: 2.8%

Adam Jahn has not had a lot of play time recently, but with the recent suspension of Alan Gordon (and what could be a further 3 game suspension looming) Jahn could get some more starts. It’s a maybe, but this is a differential pick, and who does not like a starting forward for under $6m?
