KFC’s Fantasy MLS Midfielder picks – Week 15

Midfielders

If you want to see more, keep reading after the break. But please join the discussion at r/FantasyMLS, that’s where a lot of planning is made and last second decisions finalized. If you have questions, please stop by! We also just rolled out a new forum layout!

Now is the time to unload some of those expensive midfielders that you may still have. Some of these players who will be missing one or two game weeks and should see value drops, and not going to be getting you any points. Fortunately, there are a few other options that are worth taking a look at to help you survive the bye week drought (too dramatic?).

Midfielders

Depending on who you have, you may not need to make too many changes to your midfield this week. Frankly, several of these teams only have mediocre choices. The standouts are pretty obvious. Amobi Okugo has been consistent at getting good point returns all season. You can’t always expect a big number from him, but it’s rare for him to not get at least 4 or 5 points. Lamar Neagle is in excellent form and has returned points in three of the last four games (he did not start against LA). Seattle also had the highest number of home goals going into this week (before New England and RSL opened the flood gates in wee k14) so they are definitely capable of scoring against Vancouver which has been shaky on the road. In my opinion, Javier Morales is very similar to Neagle in his potential to return points. He’s had a lot of good looks and been involved in several of the goals over the past 3 weeks (I still don’t know how he got nothing against Chicago). The LA game could be difficult for RSL, but after the beating LA took from New England last week, more goals are definitely possible.

There are two other popular choices I wanted to separate out form the pack: Mike Magee and Will Johnson. Portland is tied with Philly for the most goals scored on the road, and Chicago is not known for having a solid backline. That does make Portland tempting even if they are an Away team. Will Johnson seems to be most reliable pick from Portland’s midfield and he’s out top pick for this week and next. Mike Magee, as many know, just transferred to Chicago, so knowing how they will be at home with him is still a little unknown. He did get a goal last week, and had a couple of good looks, so Chicago may have a better chance than some expect.

If you want a more differential option, I’d take a look at Kelyn Rowe from New England. Last week he exploded with two assists and a goal against LA and DC definitely gives everyone on New England another chance to shine. Rowe is owned by less than 5% of managers. No one else on any of the other away teams really shines for us, so I have a hard time recommending them.

Final thoughts

• Betting against DC seems to pay off

• Philly v Columbus could be an evenly matched game

• Which LA team will show up?

• Can Magee save Chicago?

That’s all I got. I’d love to hear your feedback, plans, and insights.
