KFC’s Fantasy MLS Midfielder picks – Week 18

Midfielders

H are our week 18 Midfielder picks.

If you want to see more, keep reading after the break. But please join the discussion at r/FantasyMLS, that’s where a lot of planning is made and last second decisions finalized. If you have questions, please stop by!

The USMNT has now announced their list of players for the Gold Cup, and this makes picking players a lot easier for many managers. If you missed the announcement, you can read more here. Fortunately, there were no surprises when it came to midfielders.

Midfielders

There was a collective sigh of relief today when the USMNT roster was released and a lot of that was because Graham Zusi and Brad Davis were not included in the roster (Landon Donovan was no surprise). It goes without saying that if Zusi or Donovan is on your team, play them. Brad Davis is the one you have to keep an eye on. He was listed as having a potential hamstring injury earlier in the week, so you may need to wait if you plan on holding onto him.

The good news this week is that if you are planning to replace a big name player, you’ll have plenty of cash to do it! Javier Morales is on the top of the list for us. He’s been in excellent form and going up against a Toronto defense that has never kept no home clean sheets.  Our next pick is Patrice Bernier. As we mentioned before, Montreal has a great run of games (COL, tor, CHV) and Bernier has 2 assists in the last 4 games. Out final high price pick is a player that had a slow start to the year and may now be living up to early expectations, Sebastien Le Toux. He has 2 assists and a goal in his last 4 games, and he’s also going against a Dallas team that has conceded an average of 2 goals per away game. With J Mac leaving for the Gold Cup soon, he could start getting more looks at goal.

Our final two players are more differential, and what we call our one and done picks. Russell Teibert has been racking up assists like crazy for Vancouver; unfortunately he’ll be leaving for the Gold Cup. Fortunately for FMLS managers, that will be after the DC game. At $5.6m and only 5.9% ownership, he could pay off well before he heads out for a few weeks. Finally we have Kelyn Rowe. He’s not leaving for the Gold Cup, but New England does have a bye next week. But this week they are playing Chivas. Rowe has 2 assists and 2 goals in his last 4 games. But more impressively, he’s only played 90min in one of those games. He’s also very affordable at $5.7m and only 4.9% ownership.

Final thoughts

• Sell Gold Cup players soon to not drop value

• A one and done risk could pay off

• Watch out for bye weeks

That’s all I got. I’d love to hear your feedback, plans, and insights.

These are our picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post.
