KFC’s Fantasy MLS Midfielder picks – Week 21

Midfielders

Here are our week 21 Midfielder picks.

The greatest perk to owning good midfielders is their ability to get the “easier” attacking points and getting into good positions for goals. There are several midfielders whose ability to rack up crosses, key passes, and goals have been key to their managers getting great point returns. Because of the matchups and call-ups, we think this is just an average week for most teams. We’ll go over our standout players after the break.

Midfielders

Let’s start with the big name players. One of our top picks this week is Graham Zusi. He has more crosses than any other midfielder and has managed to keep on top of the points even when missing some games for national duty. With Toronto as their opponent, this should be an easy home game for SKC. Next is Diego Valeri. Even though Portland had a rough game last week, we think Valeri’s ability to put in crosses and key passes will be a big advantage in their game against LA. Especially if LA stick with their normal away form. There are also two players who have promising away games. Real Salt Lake as one of the better away scoring records, and with he current form Dallas has been in, we think Javier Morales is due another good game. Finally we have good ole Mike Magee. He just keeps scoring. Vancouver definitely knows how to score when at home, but they are only average when it to comes to defending.

If you’ve not jumped on the Philly train yet, now is the time to do it. Over the next 5 weeks, they have 4 homes games and we think that will translate into some good points. This week they are playing Chivas, who has been doing a lot better on defense lately. If they keep playing that tough in the back, we think Amobi Okugo (31.4% @ $7.9m) is the way to go to let you match defense with defense. If you want to be more attacking, then grab Sebastien Le Toux (15.9% @ $8.3m). Of course, it every believable that Philly could score goals and be tough on defense. This could be the time to double up and grab both.

In our Defender article, we mentioned getting some New England defenders to prep for the double game next week. If you would rather spread you players out, then there are 2 New England midfielders to keep in mind. Lee Nguyen (3.2% @ $8.2m) is a great, but expensive, differential pick if he can keep providing the assists like he did last week. If you want someone who is also a good differential, and easier on your budget, look at Kelyn Rowe (5.3% @ $5.8m). Rowe has a couple of goals as assists this season, but he’s also excellent a finding key passes. The big worry with this game is if Houston brings the same defensive performance that they did last week.

Final thoughts

• Unsure about NY v MTL, Stupid MTL.

• Double PHI midfield could help makeup some points.

• Avoid Toronto

That’s all I got. I’d love to hear your feedback, plans, and insights.
