KFC’s MLS Fantasy Keeper picks – Week 10

Keepers

There were A LOT of goals last week and this means that many managers did not get great returns on their keepers. If you owned one of the 4 players who got a shutout, congratulations. Three teams have a bye next week, but when it comes to keepers, only one is worth mentioning. Raul Fernandez from FC Dallas will not be available.

The Big 3 picks this week are all teams that have double games in Week 11. If you have not started to plan for that yet, you better do it now. If you’re using your wild card, keep an eye on prices so you can try to gain some value.

Big 3
Jimmy Nielsen (KC v CHV), Troy Perkins (SJ vs MON), and Nick Rimando (RSL vs VAN).

Clint Irwin (Colorado) vs Toronto
Price: $4.5m
Owned by: 9.7%

We’ve been talking about Irwin for weeks now. If you have him, this is a good week to play him (especially if one of your big guns is on bye). If you don’t, we’ll he’s still under $5m so he could be an ideal pick to free up cash for the coming double game weeks in weeks 11 and 12.  He’s also in the top 10 highest scoring keepers.

Carlo Cudicini (Los Angeles) vs Houston
Price: $5.4m
Owned by: 6.4%

Cusicini not playing last week came as a big surprise to many. With hope, his leg injury is not too serious and he will be back in goal for the Houston game. LA is unbeaten at home this year (3-0-1) and we all know about the woes Houston suffers on the road. To ad instult to injury, Houston is also going ot be without Brad Davis for this MLS Cup rematch game. Houston still has some bite, but the odds look good for Cudicini. ALSO, remember that LA has a double game in week 12, so this could be a good time to get in on a player early and maybe gain a couple value points.

Andy Gruenebaum (Columbus) vs New York
Price: $5.3m
Owned by: 7.2%

Don’t worry; I’m not going to add to the piles of bad fire puns that are going around. Columbus’s win over DC marked the beginning of a three Home game run that they are going to enjoy (unfortunately no doubles).  This is good news because the Crew have struggled some on the road but are still unbeaten at home (1-0-2). New York will be a test, but if Gruenebaum can come up with some great saves again it’s one that the Crew might be able to withstand. Just to reiterate, Columbus has no double games in week 11 or 12.

Differential

Zac MacMath (Philadelphia) vs Seattle
Price: $4.9m
Owned by: 2.4%

This pick is purely for value building and for those who want to have a double game keeper in week 12 but don’t have the money for Cudicini. The only thing MacMath has going for him is that Philly’s home record is better than Seattle’s away record.
