2018 Round 12 Captain’s conundrum

Round 12 in the MLS is here and it’s a double game week for a couple of sides . So this week we will be looking to take advantage of this. I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this week , could see you claw back points on the leaders of your league , or even extend the gap at the top. Here’s my top four picks for this week.

Valeri Qazaishvili (Vako) / San Jose Earthquakes / $8.7 Million / vs Vancouver and DC United

Vako and San Jose performances have been disappointing this season . San Jose have only won 2 games this season and Vako hasn’t found the back of the net since week 3’s loss to Sporting KC . However In recent weeks Vako’s influence on games has increased . The midfielder has created 6 chances for his team mates in the last two games ,which unfortunately were not taken. Though his improvement on the pitch will encourage San Jose heading into an important double game week.

This week the Earthquakes face a Vancouver side who head into week 12 in poor form . 1 Point from two games including a 1-0 loss to 10 man Minnesota in week 10 . Then the Whitecaps face a DC United side who have only won one game this season and have conceded an average of 2 goals every game this year. So with San Jose coming into week 12 off the back of a 3-1 victory against Minnesota , Vako may not have a better match up to end his goal scoring drought.

David Villa / New York City FC / $10.3 Million / vs Colorado

David Villa was back on song against LA Galaxy , after a disappointing performance against New York Redbulls . The Spaniards first half goal in NYCFC’s 2-2 draw against LA helped earn the forward 7 points. This Week NYCFC face Colorado Rapids in a match up they will fancy picking up 3 points in . Colorado have only won 2 of their 9 games this season and find it difficult to find the back of the net , only Seattle have scored fewer. So I expect NYCFC to win, and Villa should be heavily involved in the game.

Magnus Eriksson / San Jose Earthquakes / $9.6 Million / vs  Vancouver and DC United

Magnus Eriksson had his highest points scoring game against Minnesota United in Week 11 . Eriksson scored one goal and secured his side a penalty which earned the attacking midfielder a total of 12 points . This was Eriksson’s first goal since week 7 and it looks like the midfielder and San Jose have hit form at the perfect time with a huge double game week ahead of them .

San Jose Earthquakes travel to Vancouver Whitecaps , who’s form has been some what inconsistent this year . The Whitecaps have only managed to score 12 goals this season , which is among the worst in the league . Only Seattle and Colorado have scored fewer in the Western Conference . Vancouver may struggle to stop the attack of San Jose , who have found the back of the net in 8 of their 9 games this season. Then the Earthquakes face a DC side they will believe they can beat , DC have only won one game this season. So Eriksson and San Jose will be hoping to continue DC’s poor run.

Alphonso Davies / Vancouver  Whitecaps / $5.9 Million / vs San Jose and Dallas (Wildcard)

Vancouver have a double game week in week 12 , and Davies is a perfect candidate for this weeks wildcard . The midfielder has seen his game time increased in recent weeks after losing his starting spot in week 8 and 9. This week Vancouver face San Jose , who have only won 1 of their last 4 games, conceding 7 goals in the process. Then the Whitecaps have a tough game against FC Dallas who have only lost 1 of their 9 games this season, and come into the game in good form after beating LA Galaxy 3-2 in week 11. However the boy has talent and I am still backing Davies to earn his highest points total of the year in week 12.
