2018 Round 14 Captain’s conundrum

Round 14 in the MLS kicks off tonight, and it’s a double game week for a couple of sides . So this week we will be looking to take advantage of this. I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this week , could see you claw back points on the leaders of your league , or even extend the gap at the top. Here’s my top four picks for this week.

Josef Martinez / Atlanta / $9.2 Million / vs New England and Philadelphia

Josef Martinez is averaging a goal every other game since week six. Which isn’t that spectacular but maybe key in a double game week for Atlanta. Martinez heads into week 14 off the back of a poor performance in round 13 against the New York Redbulls. He only managed to earn fantasy owners three points.

However, this week is an important week for Atlanta. A chance to recover from last weekend’s defeat to the Redbulls, with two games against mid table opposition. Which Atlanta will fancy their chances of taking all six points.  Atlanta’s first game of the week is against New England who have only picked up one point from their last two games. Their second game is at home, so Atlanta will want to end their run of two straight defeats in front of their home fans.

Alberth Elis / Houston Dynamos / $11.3 / vs RSL and Montreal

The forward heads into round 14 in great form. Three goals in his last two games sent his tally for the season up to eight. Alberth Elis has earned fantasy owners an average of 10 points in the last two rounds and if he can continue this trend for a double game week. Elis could be hitting the 40-point mark if he is your captain.

Houston have two away trips this round, first trip is to Real Salt Lake then Houston head to Montreal. RSL have one of the worst defences across both conferences with 25 goals conceded. They were also beaten 4-1 in their last home game by Philadelphia, so Houston should be confident of getting the win. Their second match is against Montreal, who have an even worse defence than RSL and are on a four-game losing streak, so two winnable games for Houston this week.

Miguel Almiron / Atlanta / $14.8 Million / vs New England and Philadelphia

Miguel Almiron has a double game week this week. So, there should be plenty of chances for the creative midfielder to score fantasy points. Almiron’s numbers have dropped off from the beginning of the season, he hasn’t scored since week nine and his last assist was in week 10’s game against Chicago.Plus he is one yellow card away from a suspension ,which would rule him out of the Philadelphia game. If he picks one up against New England tonight.

However, as the saying goes form is temporary, class is permanent. This is certainly the case with Almiron. He has huge talent and a double game week against two mid table teams should give the Paraguayan a chance to end is goal scoring drought.

Cristian Penilla / New Engalnd / $9.7 Million / vs Atlanta and NY Redbulls

Cristian Penilla is in good form after scoring against Vancouver last week. The forward has managed to score three goals in his last three games, so statistically speaking Penilla should score at least once in week 14. He will also be boosted by the fact Atlanta will be without defender Greg Garza who was sent off last week. While New England’s second game is against the Redbulls, and if they have another off night similar to the one against the Union. New England may fancy their chances in that game.
