2019 Round 21 Captain’s Conundrum

Round 21’s captain rankings are here. Is there an opponent that you haven’t been able to catch up to for a while? This single game week offers a great opportunity for fantasy players to mix things up and gain an advantage over their opponents.

1) Carlos Vela

Vela returns home on the back of 2 goals against arch-rivals LA Galaxy in a bitter loss. Zlatan’s words will surely be in the back of his head in this “statement game” for him against one of the best defenses in the league in Atlanta United. Atlanta might’ve had 2 clean sheets in a row but I have no doubt in Vela’s ability to produce against even the best opponents. He is the only forward who features in the list this week.

2) Alejandro Pozuelo

Pozuelo missed the last game due to an injury in the game against NYRB but returns this week against FC Cincinnati at home. Toronto witnessed the effect of Pozuelo’s absence in the loss against Houston Dynamo. He goes up against the worst team in the league in FC Cincinnati at home and will be looking to extend his pre-injury form.

3) Carles Gil

Gil had a monster game week last week and amassed 29 points with 2 goals and 2 assist in 2 games. New England Revolution has won their last 2 games quite comprehensively and will be looking to tow Orlando City away in yet another game against one of the lower placed teams in the league. Gil has a score of at least 7 in his last 7 games and has been at the center of this resurgent New England team. I am expecting another big performance from him this week.

4) Maxi Moralez

NYCFC returns home after a short away trip where Moralez got 2 assists in 2 games. NYCFC have an opportunity to move to the top of the table with the games they have in hand and they will be looking to make the most of it. Opponents Sporting Kansas City suffered a disappointing loss against FC Dallas and Moralez will have to play a key part if they’re to win this game. Moralez has scored at least 5 points in the last 13 games but will need another big game to make his team victorious.

5) Valeri “Vako” Qazaishvili

There was some doubt initially about whether Vako will be a part of the squad under Almeyda or not but he has put all the questions about him to rest with his recent performances. Vako has been playing like an MVP lately and has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 2 games. San Jose has outshot their opponents 64-11 in the last two games and this week’s opponents Colorado Rapids have conceded 6 goals in the last 3 games. There will be plenty of chances for Vako and now it is up to him to make most of it.
