2019 Round 26 Captain’s Conundrum

Round 26’s captain rankings are here. A double game week for Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps give you a plethora of attackers to choose from. Vela is replaced at the top of the list because of his injury and a single game this week.

1) Saphir Taider

Taider has been in great form and his recent performances have gone completely under the radar. He has scores of 5, 10, 9 and 13 in the last four games which includes 2 goals and 1 assist. He can better his recent form with two home games against Vancouver Whitecaps and D.C. United this week. Both the teams conceded 3 goals last week. Taider suffered a “knock” in training but should be good to go against Vancouver.

2) Carlos Vela

The big question for this week is will Vela start against Minnesota United after his hamstring injury in the game against LA Galaxy? There is a 50/50 chance that he starts. Minnesota plays Atlanta United in the open cup before they play LAFC and Vela could easily get double-digit points against them if he does start. Another problem is that LAFC play last and if Vela doesn’t start then you will be stuck without a backup. Not the ideal captain but could get you big points if he does feature in the match.

3) Diego Valeri

Valeri has been in decent form recently and is a great option for those who don’t want to take a risk on Taider and Vela who might not feature due to injuries. He has 1 goal and 3 assists in the last three games and gets yet another home game this week against RSL. If Portland scores then Valeri more than likely will have a hand in it.

4) Carles Gil

If you’re looking to go with a differential captain this week then Gil could be the answer you’re looking for. He is on this crazy run and is heavily involved in the New England attack. He has 5 goals and 7 assists in the last nine games and a home game against Toronto FC who hasn’t kept a clean sheet in 7 games the game is almost guaranteed to have goals in it.

5) Nicolas Lodeiro

His recent performances might not seem like much but all the bad performances have been away from home. Lodeiro at home is an entirely different player and he has scores of 15, 9, 9 and 10 in his last four home games. LAG failed to capitalize on a two-goal lead against LAFC and Seattle won’t accept anything less than 3 points.
