KFC’s Fantasy MLS Midfielder picks – Week 16

Midfielders

A little later than intended but here are the week 16 Midfielder picks.

If you want to see more, keep reading after the break. But please join the discussion at r/FantasyMLS, that’s where a lot of planning is made and last second decisions finalized. If you have questions, please stop by!

Like our other two articles, this one will feature mostly double game players. This is one of the positions that we feel is still open game for single game week players to get competitive scores, unfortunately, a lot of those players are not playing or have bad games. It also seems safe to assume that many managers will have some of the double guys already. So here we go…

Midfielders

I’m just going to get this part out of the way, there are only two single game week midfielders I would put any stock in this week. The first is Landon Donovan (especially with Keane back) and the second is Mike Magee. Magee is the biggest worry because at some point he will not get a goal, but if you have one of these guys still, I would not feel pressured to trade or sit them.

Moving on to the double game teams. I think your best options are going to come from Portland and Montreal. Diego Valeri looks like he might be getting some of his old form back and Will Johnson always seems to jump up right when I think he’s finished. Either one would be a good choice especially when you consider that Dallas could still be recovering from playing all starters during the Open Cup this week. If Montreal is more to your liking, my top pick is Justin Mapp. Besides being on good form, he also has good crossing and key pass numbers.  And I think those numbers will get the best results for Montreal this weekend. If you think a more defensive player will get you a better score, Patrice Bernier is the player to look at. His offensive numbers are not close to Mapp’s, but he does have higher CBI and Recoveries.

Vancouver and Colorado each have one player that seem worth a midfield spot this week (though I don’t know if I would roll the dice on both over other options). Since he’s gotten more play time, Russell Teibert has been a shining spot in the Vancouver midfield. He’s connecting on passes, and earning assists. Combine that with a good home scoring record and you could have a cheap player hat gets a great return. It’d mostly Colorado’s defense that I like, but if want to add a midfielder, Brian Mullan is out pick.

Final thoughts

• Better chance for single gamers, but few options

• Weakened Dallas could be good for Portland?

• Not much for Vancouver and Colorado

That’s all I got. I’d love to hear your feedback, plans, and insights.

These are our picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post.
