KFC’s Fantasy MLS Midfielder picks – Week 4

Midfielders

Oh what a difference a day can make. In the first draft of this post, Brad Davis was listed as one of the “Big 3” picks below. It only made sense since he, surprisingly, did not get called up to the USMNT. Then… he got called up. SO! After a quick revision, the new list is ready to go. My condolences to you if you jumped on the Davis train this week.

Big 3
Mike Magee (LA v COL), David Ferreira (DAL vs RSL), and Davy Arnaud (MON vs NY).

Keep reading for the rest.

Daigo Kobayashi (Vancouver) vs Houston
Price: $7.7m
Owned by: 9.0%

Vancouver is back on the field this week and they are facing a Houston team that’s feeling the pains of international callus and possibly injury. Davis and Taylor are out, and Will Bruin left the field last week with a hamstring injury (Current status is Active). This is good news for the in form Whitecaps. Kobayashi has been one of their standout players, so far, this season. He’s the guy they look to for set plays and for some midfield creativity (good cross and passing numbers for only 2 games). He has the ability to get goals, as his long range shot showed in week 2, and experience, both of which will be needed if Vancouver wants to come away with points from this away game.

Oriol Rosell Argerich (Kansas City) vs New England
Price: $6.7m
Owned by: 8.7%

Looking to save some cash this week? Rosell could be just the player for you then. He plays center midfield for SKC and has already racked up an excellent number of CBIs and Recoveries. This makes his a guy who is likely to get some bonus points during a game. With Zusi gone, he may be able to get involved more in attacking too this week. The only concern is that this is New England’s first home game, so they could be ready to dig in after the loss last week.

Osvaldo Alonso (Seattle) vs San Jose
Price: $8.0m
Owned by: 4.5%

If you have not guessed by now, there are 2 big factors influencing my decisions this week: 1) International duty and 2) Bonus stats. Alonso gets check marks in both columns. San Jose has taken a beating from injuries this year and has just lost 2 key defenders to international duty. Alonso has only played 1 game for Seattle this year and earned 5 bonus points! Seattle’s current point getter has 10 over 2 games. If Alonso keeps this up, he could be a fantasy gold mine (as long as those stats are not just Rivalry numbers).

Differential

Edgar Mejia (Chivas) vs Chicago
Price: $7.0m
Owned by: 0.6%

I’m still unsure what to think of Chivas, they have definitely been doing better than last year but still seem to be a little in flux. A bad call had them playing a man down for almost an hours against LA last week, and they managed to get a draw in the end. Chicago, on the other hand, just can’t seem to get it together. Mejia has OK bonus numbers, has played 90min every game, and his score is benefiting from an assist in week 2, but he’s not my first choice. Joaquin Oscar Velázquez would have been my recommendation if he had not received that Red card.

edit: Velázquez red card recended. Price is $4.9m with 1.4% ownership. Excellent CBI numbers.

These are my picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post. You can also leave a message on our Facebook page. Keep checking back for more updates through the week for other positions.
