KFC’s MLS Fantasy Captain picks – Week 3

captain-MLSIt’s almost time for week 3 to kick off, and this week there is only 1 team that is not playing this week. This means our captain options have increased a little bit. I know a lot of you visit Reddit, so I wanted to point out one of the posts that has been active recently in the r/FantasyMLS subreddit. There is a nice discussion about Midfielders vs Forwards as captains, check it out and chime in if you want. And when you finish that, keep reading to see who stands out to us.

Options

  • Graham Zusi
A loss last week did not stop Zusi from getting 8 points. He’s one of the prime examples for how the bonus points that midfielders generate can still provide you with good returns (only 9 players scored more than 8 points last week). SKC are playing Chicago at home this week.
  • Sabastine Le Toux
Philadelphia just look like a different team when Le Toux is not playing. He’s definitely the player to have if you are looking for Philly coverage (1 assist and 3 Attacking bonus points in week 2). It’s worth noting though that he is currently listed as Doubtful due to lower back strain. Philly are playing New England at home this week
  • Felipe Campanholi
It may be a little surprising to see Felipe on this list, but not after you consider the form Montreal is currently in. Felipe has been a key part in the Montreal offense with an assist in week 1 and a goal in week 2. He’s only owned by 3.2% of managers, so he could also be a good differential choice. Montreal are playing Toronto at home this week.
  • Chris Wondolowski
It’s not often a player gets to take a mulligan on a PK, but that’s exactly what happened to Wondo last week. Still, he’s 2nd overall for shots, though not on goal. What San Jose has going for them is that they have speed up front, and that is something they should be able to take advantage of in week 3. San Jose plays away at Columbus this week.
  • Robbie Keane
After taking week 2 off to go play in the CONCACAF champions league, LA are back and are ready to dive into an easy schedule over the next few weeks. Keane picked up a goal and an assist in week one and has an excellent record for setting players up, and week 3 does not exactly seem challenging. LA is playing Chivas at home this week.
  • Diego Valeri
Portland is getting ready to play in one of the biggest rivalry games in MLS, so it’s hard to know what to expect with so much emotion involved, but some things do stand out: Valeri is leading the league in shots and is tied for 3rd for shots on goal. He’s also has more crosses and key asses than any other Portland player. So he’s one to watch. Portland plays away at Seattle this week.
  • Eddie Johnson
And on the other side of the Portland v Seattle game is Eddie Johnson. Johnson scored the winning goal in Seattle’s Champions League match last week and with some injury concerns in their midfield, he’ll be looked at to come through for Seattle again this week. Seattle play Portland at home this week.

Top 3

  • Graham Zusi
His numbers, even is a loss, are making him one of the go-to picks for captain and Chicago’s current form make higher returns a possibility.
  • Robbie Keane
He’s a workhorse and a proven goal scorer and playmaker. Chivas may have won last week, but LA will be the first hard game they have had this year.
  • Sebastien Le Toux
As long as his health holds up, Le Toux in the driving force for Philly, and will pose a challenge to New England’s defense.

Runner-up

  • Felipe Campanholi
Toronto surprised everyone with the win over SKC last week. If they play like that again, it could be a challenge for Montreal, if not, Felipe should have another good game.

So who do you think is a must have? Vote now and let everyone know.

These are my picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post. You can also leave a message on our Facebook page. Good Luck!
