Round 11 Advanced Transfer Tactics

Advanced Transfer Tactics

In this new article at MLS Fantasy Boss, we will look at the some of the best options for setting up a Keeperoo, Autoroo, or a Transferoo for the upcoming round. For those unfamiliar with these tactics in MLS Fantasy, you can find a detailed explanation here.

Mangers should select an Over/Under value for Keeperoos and Transferoos so they know when to keep a score or when to go digging for a better options. This number is usually around the average of a potential replacement with variance on how good the replacement’s matchup looks like.

Advanced Transfer Tactics – Keeperoo

For the keeperoo, you want to pick an early game goalkeeper that you hope will have a great game. If he does, you leave the position alone. If his score doesn’t suit you, you look for a sub to put on the field from a later game.

Evan Bush, $8.4 MTL

With the huge Double Game Week, the only real option at keeperoo is Evan Bush. He’ll complete his second game before many of the single game week teams play giving managers the opportunity to see his full score.

Over/Under

Bush’s over/under is set at 4.5. If Bush plays 180 and doesn’t get absolutely shelled, it’ll be hard to justify dropping him, but if he somehow hits the under, Gleeson vs a tired Seattle team might be the best bet.

Advanced Transfer Tactics – Autoroo

In short, the Autoroo involves loading your bench with two or three players and letting the automatic substitution pick the highest score or scores.  These should be your boom or bust players that can’t be predicted.

When running 3 bench players, you need 2 scrubs on the field, but only 1 if you are running two bench options. You won’t have to watch results closely here, just set these guys up on the bench and let the game do the work.

Victor Vazquez, $10.4, TFC Midfielder

With TFC coming off CCL and getting back to form, managers can expect Vazquez to be in the middle of things sooner or later. He’s doesn’t appear to be quite 100% after his injury, but definitely worth a bench spot in case he makes his fantasy comeback this round.

Gyasi Zardes, $7.8 CLB Forward

Columbus is one of two teams with a double home game and they happened to be against two opponents that can rack up goals on. Zardes started hot but has fallen off a bit as of late, but this week is worth taking a risk with him on the bench. A single goal might be enough, but the chance for multiple at $7.8 is too good to pass up.

Benny Feilhaber, $10.3 LAFC Midfielder

With Vela and Rossi on the team, Benny doesn’t come up as often, but he’s quietly averaging 6.88ppg. If he replicates that in this DGW, you’re looking at a solid bench score. If he managers to find a goal or two, you might have one of the hottest players of the round. Home games against both Minnesota and New York City could bode well.

Advanced Transfer Tactics – Transferoo

The ultimate weapon in maximizing your team value is the Transferoo. For this you pick an early game player looking for that big score, just like a goalkeeper. If you hit it right, you’ve saved a lot of money, but if the player is a bust, grab a replacement. With the power comes one major drawback. Every time you employ this strategy, you lose overall value on the field with a bench player that won’t see the field eating into your budget.

Anthony Jackson-Hamel, $4.3 MTL Forward

Jackson-Hamel is fresh off a brace and hungry for more. With Montreal struggling to find their prime striker, he is the perfect candidate for the Autoroo. At $4.3, you’ve got plenty of upside and late games with Dwyer and Valeri as potential replacements.

Over/Under

Since managers are looking at single game week options to back up Jackson-Hamel the over/under is harder to determine. Valeri at home vs a somewhat weakened Seattle team is tempting. We’ll set the over under at 6.5. Valeri is a likely 7 point pick so don’t settle for less.

 Overlapping Players

It must be noted that many of the Autoroo and Transferoo players can overlap. Setting up an autoroo with two early players can turn into a transferoo if both scores are sub par. Many of the late game week autroo candidates are perfect replacements for selected transferoo players as well.

With the massive DGW, these tactics will be minimal outside the Autoroo, but clever managers can still find ways to maximize their budgets and points with some careful planning.
