The Best Forwards in MLS: Spring 2019 Season

The Spring season has come to an end and we now know what some players are capable of. This list features some names who are proving their worth in this league and some old ones who keep proving why they’re the best in business. These players have shown us glimpses of their potential in this short season and are destined for success in the Fall season.

This season has had some highly-prolific and lethal forwards who’ve led their team’s attack with their brilliant performances. At the top of the pack is LAFC forward Carlos Vela. He is the frontrunner in the MVP race and leads the league in goals and assists with his 16 goals and 10 assists. Vela is also the highest scoring player in FMLS with 184 points. Alejandro Pozuelo is second with 115 points. Vela is, without doubt, one of the best players in MLS and FMLS. He is followed by LAG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimović who has been consistent like his first season in the league and has nabbed 11 goals and 3 assists this season so far. He is also taking the extra initiative to play on turf pitches and aims to play almost every game. Atlanta United forward Josef Martinez isn’t far behind with 10 goals and 2 assists.

Other honorable mentions are Josef Martinez (8 goals +5 assists), Diego Rossi (8 goals + 3 assists), Alberth Elis (5 goals + 6 assists) and Johnny Russell (7 goals + 3 assists).

These forwards got the highest points in the FMLS Spring season this year.

Players to watch out for: Héber Araujo dos Santos (NYCFC), Brian Fernandez (Portland Timbers), Raul Ruidíaz (Seattle Sounders), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes) and Diego Rubio (Colorado Rapids).

  1. Keep an eye on Héber. He has 6 goals and 3 assists in 10 matches and @ $9 mil he’s going to be a good ‘roo player when the budgets open up a bit.
