Best XI Predictions 2017 – Round 10

Fantasy MLS for 2017 is a wildcard every week. In this piece, we explore the options available to brand new players and veterans alike as we attempt to predict the round’s Dream Team. We will primarily look at matchups and form as we pick the strongest team at $100m starting salary.

Round 9 marks the first time Best XI has failed to beat the average. Even without missing the Switcheroo, this was a bad week.  A sincere apology to all those that took too much advice.

Who would have believed that Alessandrini, Kljestan, Piatti, Larin, and Dempsey would combine for a total of 15 points? Villalba led all attackers in this lineup with 6.

Total Score: 55

Average: 58 (-3)

Highest: 118 (-63)

Starters

Goalkeeper – Melia  $5.8 SKC: A DGW week for fantasy’s leading GK. This one is hard to pass on. If you are on a budget, Bono would be the best alternative.

Defender – Opara $5.5 SKC: With Sinovic on 4 yellows and facing a suspension on his next, Opara is the first defender to look at. He’s the cheapest option on defense for SKC that is likely to play the full 180.

Defender – Medranda $5.5 SKC: The “super sub out” is likely to see some rest, but chances are he gets 60 minutes in each game. If this preserves his clean sheet in either game, that’s enough to warrant his inclusion.

Defender – Long $5.4 NYRB: NY is playing a double as well and Long has been at the heart of their defense. SKC is tough at home, but this defense is up to the task. A game at Philly gives a decent chance for a clean sheet.

Defender – Lawrence $5.5 NYRB: While Long is the clear standout in most player’s mind, Lawrence is only a single point behind him. Can’t take one without the other if there is an extra spot and money.

Midfielder – Bradley $9.0 TFC: Bradley is raking in the BPs and is a near guaranteed double digit score with two games this round.

Midfielder – Royer $7.5 NYRB: Given a larger budget, this would be Kljestan, but Royer is still a viable option. SKC are known for shutting down premier players so Royer should get his moments. But where he will really shine is in Philly.

Midfielder – Feilhaber $10.4 SKC: The only reason the backline is loaded with SKC is so Feilhaber can be here.  He’s coming off an 11 point round and has a game vs MNU in a double game week. Hard to argue with that.

Midfielder – Johnson $7.0 ORL: Orlando needs some love on the DGW and Johnson is a prime candidate. He’s had a 2 and a 3 in his 7 games, but the rest are 5 or higher. Given the double and his consistency, he’s worth a look for the price.

Forward – Giovinco $12.3 TFC: He’s Giovinco on a double.

Forward – Altidore $10.1 TFC: It almost never happens that you take both forwards from a team, but here is Altidore. When Giovinco isn’t scoring, Altidore is. Why miss out? Home to Orlando and at Seattle are tough matchups, but this high flying offense should do work. NE managed to get 3 inside Century Link after all.

Subs

Goalkeeper – Brown $4.0 HOU

Defender – Arellano $4.0 LA

Midfielder – Tabla $3.8 MTL

Forward – Edwards $3.9

Total Value: $99.7

It’s pure DGW for round 10. We saw that last DGW dominated by solid performances at the back so it’s time to try it again.  A lot is riding on TFC, but there are lots of safety plays to hold the line.  You can’t win big if you don’t take a few risks.

Captain

Giovinco  is on a double game week, what more needs to be said?
