This is a fun article that was inspired by a post in Live Chat by odave807. This is also a post in honor of the Golden Goat from the MLSFI podcast. Enjoy 🙂
Let’s face it; we all love Chivas USA when it comes to MLS Fantasy. We love that playing them almost always means that the other teams will come away with good points. But there is another reason to love them in 2014; they are great for helping you stay within the $120m budget. Additionally, because Chivas plays near the end of the week, you will have emergency players on your bench who you can manually sub in if your main players are injured or just not starting.
Here are some of the best value picks from Chivas.
- Dan Kennedy – You can search all you want, but you’re not going to find a guaranteed starting keeper for any cheaper than $4.5m at this point in the season.
- Andrew Jean-Baptiste – Baptiste is now to Chivas this year but has played in almost every preseason game. He looks set to start at CB and is only $6.5m.
- Bobby Burling – The second Chivas CB is up in the air right now. Most assume it will be Carlos Bocanegra, but he has only played 1/2 of their preseason games. Burling has started 5 games and could very well be Bocanegra’s replacement if he is not ready. And did I mention that he only costs $5.0m?
- Thomas McNamara – If you’re looking for a cheap starting, most likely, midfielder look no further. McNamara has started in 4 of the 5 games he has played and scored a goal in his first. His price, only $4.5m.
- Matthew Fondy – Just like McNamara, he has played and started in several of Chivas’ preseason games and scored a goal. He may not be in the starting XI at kickoff, but he’s the best $4.0 forward available.
