Round 5 in the MLS gets underway tonight, So I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this week , could see you claw back points on the leaders of your league , or even extend the gap at the top. Here’s my top four picks for this week.
Federico Higuain / Columbus Crew / ($11.6 M) / vs Vancouver Whitecaps
Federico Higuain earned fantasy owners 12 points last week in Crew’s win against DC United. Higuain picked up his first and second assists for the season , in a very impressive display in week 4 . Columbus Crew host Vancouver Whitecaps in week 5 looking to keep their unbeaten start to the season going.
However the Whitecaps come into the game off the back of a steady draw against the Galaxy . Which saw them keep their first clean sheet of the season. Though in their last away trip Vancouver conceded 4 against Atlanta and Crew have scored an average of 2 goals a game . So the Whitecaps may struggle to lock down Higuain in this match up.
Felipe Gutierrez / Sporting Kansas City / ($9.7 M) / vs DC United
The Chilean heads in to week 5 with his confidence sky high after netting in his last 3 games. Felipe Gutierrez has scored 4 goals from 4 games so far this season and will be hoping to continue that impressive run against DC United this weekend.
Sporting Kansas City have one of the most feared attacks in the league at the moment and DC will be fully aware of SKC attacking threat. SKC have scored 9 goals in only 3 games so far this year and United head into this game off the back off a 3-1 defeat to Columbus Crew. So Gutierrez will fancy his chances of continuing his hot streak against DC.
Alberth Elis / Houston Dynamo / ($10.5 M) / vs New England Revolution
Alberth Elis has started the season in great form. A goal and an assist in his last game against DC United has made Elis one of Houston’s key players so far this year . The forward earned fantasy owners 12 points in week 3 and will head into the weekends game against New England fresh and full of confidence .
New England have conceded 5 goals in their last 3 games, while Houston have scored 5 goals in their two home games this season . So Elis will be looking forward to matching up against New England in week 5 .
Diego Rossi / LAFC / ($10.2 M) / vs LA Galaxy (Wildcard)
Diego Rossi has scored in both of LAFC’s games this season. The forward’s brace against Real Salt Lake in week 2 means the 20 year old will be well rested and ready to go in the first LA Derby of the season .
LA Galaxy have a small injury crisis at the minute and head into the derby match off the back of a 0-0 draw against Vancouver in week 4. The Galaxy have given up 32 shots in their last 2 games and with the form Rossi has been in I would expect LA Galaxy to be punished heavily if they continue to give up so many attempts at their goal in week 5.
