Round 24’s captain rankings are here. It’s a unique double game week with multiple teams playing both their games at home. Which players have made the cut along with Zlatan?
1) Zlatan Ibrahimović
There might be some doubt about Zlatan’s ability because he failed to score a goal despite having 15 shots. As crazy as it might be, I just can’t imagine Zlatan going goal-less in a double game week at home. Opponents FC Dallas conceded 5 goals in their last game and Seattle Sounders conceded 3 goals and might miss key defensive starters again. Zlatan has to back what he said about MLS with his performances and that’s when he performs the best.
2) Diego Valeri
As compared to Zlatan, Valeri is a much safer captain and will offer you a higher floor and almost the same ceiling as him. He has shown us glimpses of his old self with 1 goal and 4 assists in the last 4 games. Chicago fire finally won their 1st away game in over a year and Atlanta United haven’t won away in their last 6 away games. It’s a good opportunity for Portland and Valeri to get full 6 points at home.
3) Jonathan Dos Santos
Are you worried because your captain might get rotated or fail to score with 15 shots in a game? Then JDS is your solution. He might not have a high floor but his ceiling is great and is almost guaranteed to get play 180 minutes and get you double-digit points this week. If you’re lucky then he might get a goal or an assist.
4) Brian Fernandez
Brian Fernandez would be higher up the list if it wasn’t for his bad form. He has only 2 goals and 1 assist in his last 6 games and is a candidate for rotation this week. The fixtures are favorable but it’s still a big risk to captain Fernandez this week.
5) Jefferson Savarino
His recent performances haven’t got as much attention as they should but Savarino could be a shrewd captain pick especially with his recent output at home. He has scores of 12, 8, 19, 8 and 10 in his last 5 home games which includes 5 goals and 3 assists. RSL are unbeaten in their last 7 matches at home and Savarino could go big with 2 home games even if they’re against tough opponents.
