Round 2 in the MLS gets underway tomorrow, So I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this week , could see you claw back points on the leaders of your league , or even extend the gap at the top. Here’s my top four picks for this week.
David Villa / NYCFC / 11 M / vs LA Galaxy
David Villa and NYCFC match up against a LA Galaxy at home in week two. Villa is one of the most expensive options this week. The forward earned fantasy owners 7 points in week one , helped by assisting Maximiliano Moralez goal on the half hour mark in NYCFC 2-0 victory over Sporting Kanas City. Week 2’s game against LA Galaxy will be a match up which NYCFC will feel is a winnable match at home. If the home side is to win the game against LA , Villa will be a vital part of the offense. The Spaniard is the key man at New York and will fancy his chances against a Galaxy side who gave up 16 shots to Portland Timbers at home , with seven of them shots on target. If LA give up this many shots against NYCFC with the likes of Villa in offense , they will be in trouble.
Miguel Almiron / Atlanta United / $10M / vs DC United
Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almiron had a disappointing week one, which has been reflected in a 500k price decrease for week 2. Atlanta face DC United in week two looking to revenge their opening round 4-0 defeat to Houston. The home side will come in to the clash with DC united as favourites. DC gave up eight shots and 60 per cent possession to an Orlando side who played with 10 men for more than half the game. Almiron will a key attacking player for Atlanta and if DC play deep and allow Atlanta to control the game , Almiron will have plenty of chances to pick up points .
Federico Higuaín / Columbus Crew / $10.5M / vs Montreal Impact
Federico Higuain had a stand out week one against Toronto . Columbus crew pulled off on the biggest shocks of the opening week. Higuaín scored the first goal of the afternoon which helped him earn fantasy owners 12 points. Crew and Higuaín have a great opportunity to build on their week one result as they face Montreal Impact at home. Impact gave up eights shots and two goals against Vancouver last week , and the Montreal will be in trouble if they are as defensively weak as in week one.
Dominique Badji / Colorado Rapids / $8M / vs New England Revs – Wild Card pick
Colorado Rapids open their MLS campaign against a New England Revolution who struggled in week one. A 2-0 defeat to Philadelphia was made worst by having their two starting centre backs sent off . So New England will host Colorado in week 2 with a make shift defence which will encourage the Rapids and especially their forward Dominique Badji. Badji will be hoping to exploit New England’s weak centre . The forward will be hoping to start the season well and he has the perfect opportunity against a New England side struggling for defenders and lacking in confidence.
