Welcome back! Fantasy MLS captains rankings for round 3 are here after a long break from regular season football which also included an “MLS is back” tournament aka “Covid Cup”. So which players proved their worth in a tournament that did not have any meaning? Who deserves your captain’s armband for this week? Let’s find out over here
1) Diego Rossi (Vs LAG, @RSL)
Diego Rossi was on fire in the Covid Cup scoring 7 goals along with 3 assists until LAFC’s run was surprisingly ended by Orlando City and the highlight of his performances was the 4 goals he scored Vs Los Angeles Galaxy in their 6-2 rout. He probably won’t repeat that performance again this week but even a goal or two or three will do.
2) Sebastian Blanco (Vs SEA, @SJ)
The MVP of the tournament, Blanco took full charge of the Portland Timbers attack and led the team to the championship with 3 goals and 5 assists. Upcoming games Vs Seattle Sounders and San Jose Earthquakes, both of which had a poor display, is a good opportunity for the bubble MVP to continue his excellent form into the season.
3) Nani (@MIA, Vs NSH)
Nani was the star performer for the dark horse Orlando City team which went all the way to the finals. He had an incredible tournament with 3 goals and 4 assists and now, he has the best fixtures this week playing newcomers Miami and Nashville so he can be a great differential captain.
4) Carlos Vela (Vs LAG, @RSL)
The only reason he isn’t the #1 or #2 captain pick this week is because he is a doubt for minutes. He hasn’t played since March but you simply can’t leave this guy out because he can do a lot in limited minutes compared to the other players on the list. There is a wave of optimism that he will start Vs LAG so you can try your luck if you’re feeling lucky.
5) Nicolas Lodeiro (@POR, Vs @LAG)
Lodeiro hasn’t really been his old self with only a goal and an assist to show in what was a very disappointing tournament for the team. If anything, a DGW is a good opportunity for him to regain some of his old form as the league resumes and Seattle Sounders get ready to defend their title again.
