This week was a disaster for the majority of fantasy players. The dream team contained three of the Houston Dynamos’ surprise stars from their 5-0 upset over presumed title contenders, FC Dallas. The XI also consisted of Philly’s GW2 standout, Pontius, and San Jose’s 2015 signing, Godoy. Other than that, you probably have two or three of the other players on your team. So, how are you going to handle recovering from such an up and down game week? By digging deeper with the new guys.
Donny Toia Price: $7.2 Club: Montreal Impact
Although he made 0 appearances for RSL as their first ever HG signing in 2011, he has grown to become a common name amongst MLS lips, especially in fantasy. Last season, he proved himself to a Montreal team that surprised a few by not only making it to the CCL final, but also finishing 3rd in the eastern conference after having a torrid 2014. This season he looks to prove himself as someone who will be towards the top of the teamsheet every week.
Toia is a pacey outside back that isn’t afraid to cross the ball early. He tends to play a pretty strong defensive game next to the brute that is Ciman, but don’t be surprised if he picks up more than just defensive points due to his attacking runs.
Anibal Godoy Price: 7.6 Club: San Jose Earthquakes
Godoy is a Panamanian international that made the switch to San Jose at the end of last season from Honvéd, a team at the bottom of the Hungarian first division. He plays as a Brazilian style number 6. Someone that not only breaks down opposing attacks before momentum builds, but he also has some foot skills and the ability to pick a pass.
I think Godoy’s performance against Portland and says a lot about his ability, so I’m going to save the explanation and show you the fantasy stats: Pass completion points,2; assists,1; times fouled, 4; attacking bonus, 1; minutes played, 90; defending bonus,1. That’s a lot to take in, isn’t it? That’s the point.
Travis Worra Price: $4.1 Club: DC United
Worra will secretly be hoping Hamid’s injury will last longer than expected because with DC’s star keeper out of his way, Worra has found himself move from third string, past Dykstra, to #1. Worra made his first MLS start over the weekend and managed a clean sheet against a strong New England opposition.
At only $4.1, Worra is a steal. Hamid still has a few months before he’ll see any action, so if Worra can replicate his recent performance, he will find himself the #1 at DC until Hamid’s return. If you’re looking for a young keeper that’s even cheaper, Seattle’s Tyler Miller is an option at $3.9, but he will not churn out as many points as Worra, and Seattle’s #1, Frei should be back before too long.
