KFC’s Fantasy MLS Defender picks – Week 10

Defenders

If any of you are following a strategy similar to the KFC team, you have a couple of defenders who are not playing this week due to the bye for Dallas. If you have Chicago or DC defenders…why? Our best recommendation is to sit your Dallas players; they have two HOME double games next week and then a relatively easy schedule leading into week 15.

The Big three is the same as always, but this week it’s important to point out that LA and PHI have double games in week 12, so that makes them even more valuable.

Big 3
Omar Gonzalez (LA v HOU), Aurélien Collin (SKC v CHV), and Parke (PHI v SEA).

Chance Myers (Kansas City) vs Chivas
Price: $5.2m
Owned by: Under 5.2%

Myers was on the KFC team early in the season, and we hated having to drop him then. We’ve always liked Myers for his attacking nature and his value. The attacking part did not really pay off until this last week. Now it would be wrong to expect 2 goals every few games,, or even a lot of bonus points, but Myers is always getting forward and is a cheap way into potential SKC clean sheets. If you’re looking for some value defenders going into week 11, Myers is a great pick!

Jeb Brovsky (Montreal) vs San Jose
Price: $4.8m
Owned by: 11.2%

We’re big fans of Montreal they have a great Home and Away record and have many players who are undervalues. The big down side is all of the bye weeks hey still have, but if you’re willing to work through that, you stand to make some nice points. Brovsky is a great and cheap way into the Montreal back line. He’s not a center back, which is what we usually prefer, but he has great defensive bonus numbers. Camara has more points, but most of that is the goal from week 2 and that’s not worth an extra $0.6m to us.

Jose Goncalves (New England) vs Portland
Price: $5.7m
Owned by: 4.9%

We can only assume that Goncalves has a low ownership because New England has not been doing that well this season. BUT, he still manages to generate a lot of defensive bonus points and New England has 1) a double game in week 11, 2) A GAME in week 15, and 3) out of their next eight games, five are at home. It’s also worth noting that A.J. Soares was generating some good numbers as well before his injury, and he is almost $1m less. If he’s fit, he could be another tempting NE option.

Differential

Michael Harrington (Portland) vs New England
Price: $4.8m
Owned by: 1.0%

Portland and defense…. Shiver. But, Portland has not been beaten in their last 6 games and they have not given up a goal in their last two home games (Houston and San Jose). That could spell trouble for New England and makes someone like Harrington tempting. If you want someone a little more offensive, Rodney Wallace has a couple of goals under his belt.
