KFC’s Fantasy MLS Defender picks – Week 7

Defenders

If you got some great points from your defensive line this week, take a moment to thank Kansas City. If you did not have a great week, it’s understandable. Not many clean sheets and 2 of the 3 were unexpected. If you loaded up on SKC players though, it came with a price. They have a bye this week. Fortunately, everyone else is playing and there are some good options.

Big 3
Omar Gonzalez (DAL v LA), Jeff Parke (PHI vs TOR), and Josh Williams (MON vs CBL).

Corey Ashe (Houston) vs Chicago
Price: $5.0m
Owned by: 13.2%

Houston had a bad break last week. We know that they are not the best on the road, but a 2-0 loss to Portland was still a surprise. This week Houston is hosting Chicago, and that is a game that plays to Houston’s strengths. Corey Ashe has 2 Pros going for him. 1) He’s cheap, and 2) he has some decent stats. You could also make a good argument for Jermaine Taylor if you have some extra cash. He’s $5.5m and has under 10% ownership. Either way, we like Houston’s chances for a clean sheet this weekend.

John Brovsky (Montreal) vs Columbus
Price: $4.9m
Owned by: 12.3%

Montreal has had a fantastic opening to its season and will be looking for a good rebound against Columbus to reenergize their home fans. Brovsky has been a great asset to the back line (he started the season being worth $4.5m). He just a few points away from top scoring defender and has excellent bonus point generation. He’s a bargain and a great way into what looks to be a tough Montreal team.  Columbus is no pushover, so we expect this to be a good game.

Jamison Olave (New York) vs DC
Price: $5.6m
Owned by: 10.2%

The first game between NY and DC was the biggest point generating game for many of the New York defenders. We do not expect the rivalry rematch to be any different. Olave has excellent bonus point generation and has been showing an ability to find the back of the net. But, one of his best qualities is that he is popular and since New York has a double game in week 8, you can expect to gain some value from him as well.

Differential

Jose Goncalves (New England) vs Seattle
Price: $5.6m
Owned by: 3.0%

Both New England and Seattle are struggling. So this fame could easily swing in favor of the home team (Seattle), but Goncalves has excellent bonus point generation, so even a loss could generate some decent points. But a win, well, there’s a reason they are differentials.

These are my picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post. You can also leave a message on our Facebook page. Keep checking back for more updates through the week for other positions.
