KFC’s Fantasy MLS Keeper picks – Week 17

Keepers

Here are our keeper picks for week 17.

If you want to see more, keep reading after the break. But please join the discussion at r/FantasyMLS, that’s where a lot of planning is made and last second decisions finalized. If you have questions, please stop by!

Finally, International games are over and pretty much everyone is back. The bye week teams don’t impact keeper selection too much. Shuttleworth may be a popular pick, but everyone should have a backup ready to go.

Keepers

I’m jumping the gun a little with this post, but I feel pretty good about the keeper options for week 17 that I can make some recommendations now.

Our top pick for next week is really easy on your pocketbook, has a promising game, and is coming off at least one great game. It’s Donovan Rickettes ($5.1). Portland is playing Colorado, and they do not have the best away scoring record. When you match that with the good record Portland has for keeping clean sheets at home, the numbers start to lean toward Rckettes. And he can easily score 7-9 points with a clean sheet.

The rest of our picks are players who have better chances of getting clean sheets based on past home performance. Dallas has one of the best averages in the league right now, averaging giving up only 1 goal out of every 2 games. Raul Fernandez also had a great game against Portland, even if it did end in a loss for them. They play Kansas City in week 17, so it’s not an easy game, but Dallas has a defense that should not be written off. Another great option is Nick Rimando. He’s the top point earning keeper, so this may be obvious, he’s also priced at $6.6m so not many people may want to invest that much in a new keeper. But if you want to go big on a keeper, he’s a good option.

Our last recommendation for week 17 is another classic choice, Tally Hall. Houston has conceded 6 goals over 7 home games. What Houston has going for it is that they are playing Toronto and Toronto has only been able to score away goes about every other game. It’s a good matchup.

Final thoughts

• There are still some good keepers at good prices

• Irwin’s a decent away choice if you have one keeper on bye

• DC has worst home scoring record, so SJ a decent away option

That’s all I got. I’d love to hear your feedback, plans, and insights.

These are our picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post.
