Captain time already? Dang these mid-week games really make the time fly by. There are several good options for captains this week, but our early poll showed that several managers are focused on what has been reliable. That’s fine, but we think there are a few other players that are worth consideration.
Keep reading to see who our picks are.
Options
- Thierry Henry
Henry has been scoring every other week. At best we give him a 50/50 chance against Columbus who are at home and playing well. Some may think he’s due, but he’s not very exciting for us.
- Jack McInerney
No votes yet for McInerney, but we think he has a decent chance at getting goals. Seattle has conceded an average of one goal during each of their last three away games and we think that is good news for McInerney.
- Graham Zusi
Still the go-to captain for many managers. The game against Chivas looks promising for Kansas City. He’s definitely a top pick.
- Chris Wondolowski
No votes for Wondo and we can’t blame anyone. He’s been disappointing when it comes to fantasy points and Montreal is a tough team. Not a favorite of ours.
- Claudio Bieler
Just like every other Kansas City player we mentioned, Bieler has a good chance to take advantage of Chivas. But it’s risky to captain a forward, so keep that in mind.
- Ryan Johnson
With the recent news that New England will be without three starting defenders, Johnson’s chances of a goal have gone up. He has three goals in the last four games and one assist. If you find him tempting, I cannot blame you.
- Aurélien Collin
Collin paid off big two weeks ago. With Juan Agudelo still injured, Chivas are without their top goal scorer. This could mean another clean sheet for Kansas City, and that could mean +8 bonus points (on top of any others) if you captain Collin. He’s very tempting.
- Diego Valeri
If you don’t want to take a chance with Johnson, Valeri is someone to consider. He was providing good offensive service before his injury and could do that one again against New England. He’s no Zusi, but so few are.
Top 3
- Aurélien Collin
The allure of clean sheet bonus points has proved too tempting for us to pass up this week. Add that to his great defensive bonus point generation and you could be looking at a beast of a score from him.
- Graham Zusi
It’s not common that Zusi gets shutdown and even less common for him to not make this list. He’s just too reliable.
- Ryan Johnson
A slight acknowledgement of Johnson’s ability but mostly recognizing the problems New England is going to face with the loss of so many defenders.
Runner-up
- Jack McInerney
Seattle did keep a clean sheet in their last away game so you never know what will happen with them. But, we think McInerney has the ability to finish if he gets a chance.
So who do you think is a must have? Vote now and let everyone know.
