KFC’s MLS Fantasy Keeper picks – Week 5

Keepers

Six teams were able to keep clean sheets this week, which make it pretty decent for keepers.  The International call-ups really hurt many defenses, especially those who lost keepers, yeah I’m looking at you Chicago…OUCH! A couple of the big names are on bye this week and a few tough matches makes it hard to find some standout picks.

Big 3
Troy Perkins (SKC v MON), Jimmy Nielsen (SKC vs MON), and Tally Hall  (HOU vs SJ).

Keep reading for the rest.

Carlo Cudicini (LA) vs Toronto
Price: $5.5m
Owned by: 7.3%

LA’s sweet opening 6 weeks is coming to an end this weekend (they not have a bye in week 6) with an away game at Toronto. When it comes to points, Cudicini is in the top 5 and tied for first for most clean sheets. His bonus point generation is a little low, but that’s because he has a pretty good defense in front of him. He stands another good chance for a clean sheet this weekend, as long as LA stay focused for the entre 90min.

Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake) vs Seattle
Price: $6.0m
Owned by: 12.8%

Salt Lake’s loss last week showed how much of a hit the International call-ups hurt them. This week they are back at full strength and ready for a home game against Seattle. The Sounders have not had a great start to the year earning only 1 point in 3 games. RSL will not be an easy game for them and could result in some good points for Managers who have invented in the RSL defensive unit.

Dan Kennedy (Chivas ) vs Vancouver
Price: $5.0m
Owned by: 8.7%

Who would have thought that after 4 games, Chivas would be sitting at 2nd in the West? Well, they are and Kennedy has played a larger part in that. They have not kept a clean sheet this year but Kennedy is still 4th in overall points. This is due to his bonus point generation from saves and recoveries. Current form makes Chivas a more difficult game for Vancouver than some might have expected. Keeping that in mind, we’re giving the advantage to the home team.

Differential

Clint Irwin (Colorado) vs Portland
Price: $4.0m
Owned by: 2.5%

If you missed Colorado’s game against LA last week, you missed a good one. Irwin played a great game and came up with a lot of big saves. This is exactly what Colorado needed to help boost their confidence. Portland does have some players that can score, so this will be a challenge for Irwin, but if he holds strong, if could pay off. ADDED BONUS, he’s $4.0m and a starter. You can expect to make some money off of this guy if you jump on him early enough.

These are my picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post. You can also leave a message on our Facebook page. Keep checking back for more updates through the week for other positions.
