KFC’s MLS Fantasy Player Roundup – MLS Cup Final

You’ve waited a week, but it’s finally…almost time for the final game, and that means that it’s time to make your last picks for the MLS Fantasy game. It’s all come down to Sporting KC and Real Salt Lake. This is honestly a tough one to call. Out ELO prediction gives SKC the upper hand, but that has a lot to do with the Home Field advantage and SKC has struggled at home this year. But they are coming off of a big win over Houston and the SKC supporters will be energizes. This energy is going to come face to fact with the excellent form that RSL has been in. This game could come down to who you captain, so having a couple of cleaver picks up your sleeve could come in handy.

If you want to see more, keep reading after the break. But please join the discussion at r/FantasyMLS, that’s where a lot of planning is made and last second decisions finalized.

Sporting Kansas City v Real Salt Lake:

I’ve been thinking a lot about this game all week and I’ve been back and forth with who I think will win. In the end, I think this game is going to be close but that RSL will win.

With that in mind, keeping the core or RSL’s defense will be key. That means you’ll want Chris Schuler and Nat Borchers on your team. Both of them are defensive powerhouses and Schuler is also a goal threat. The rest of RSL’s defenders are just average, so unless you think they can get a shutout, you’ll need to round your defense out with at least 1 SKC player. The obvious choice is Aurélien Collin. His 6 defensive bonus points i the Houston game show how important he is. If you want two, I’d stay with the centers and go with Matt Besler.

I find myself in a strange position as I start looking at midfielders for this game, I’m not flooded with names to have to pick from. In fact, I can barely find 5 names that I would want to have. There are two obvious choices, Graham Zusi and Javier Morales and the heart of creativity for their teams and should be on your team. After that I also think you need to have Kyle Beckerman. He’s the backbone of RSL’s midfield defense, and should play an important role in trying to contain SKC. After this, It’s hard to pick and will depend on who you favor. Here’s my order Ned GrabavoyBenny FeilhaberOriol Rosell Argerich. Grabavoy not looks set to start again, and could get in on the offensive points (he had 5 goals and 5 assists during the regular season). For SKC, Feilhaber is on form and offensive minded, Rosell is the more defensive.

For defense, there are five choices but two of them are game day decisions. The safe 3 are Robbie FindleyDominic Dwyer, and C.J. Sapong. I think it’s worth it to have 1 forward from each team for this one. The two game day decisions are Bieler and Saborio they may not play and you’ll want to go with who starts.

As I said at the start, I think RSL is going to win this game, but I think SKC will also score. Unfortunately, the lack of good Midfield choices means that I’m leaning toward a 4-4-2 for this game and will be hoping for some good bonus point returns for SKC. As for captain, the Caparoo is not an option this week so you’ll be stuck with you pick. My eye is currently on Javier Morales.

Prediction: SKC-1 RSL -2
