New York City 3 vs. DC United 1
Highlights
Kwadwo Pokuuuuuuuu. David Villaaaaaa. Tommy McNamaraaaaaaa. Those are my favorites from this game. We can discuss how DC United have been doing a great job this season despite having no real stars, but NYCFC showed this weekend that DC United are going to need something else if they want any chance of winning the Cup.
Fantasy Standouts
- Kwadwo Poku ($6.9): Poku was a beast and was the reason NYCFC won this weekend. Jason Kreis won’t be able to put him on the bench after that and he is easily more valuable than either Pirlo or Lampard right now.
- Thomas McNamara ($7.1): If you look at TMac’s stats for the last couple weeks you would be surprised. 11, 9, 3, 9 now apart from that 3 Tommy has looked great and with Poku back in the lineup I really like the potential for this DGW.
- David Villa ($11.4): I’m telling you now I had Tommy this past weekend and I intend to pick up Poku for this upcoming DGW. I have faith in NYCFC to score goals, but not to defend.
Fantasy Letdowns
- DC United Offense: The fact of the matter is Rolfe is the only remotely safe option from DC United. The offense’s identity is that it has no real identity, which is a nightmare for fantasy owners. What you can count on is that Rolfe is a great soccer player and he will take PKs.
San Jose Earthquakes 1 vs. Colorado Rapids 0
Highlights
Wondolowski has flatlined at 2s, but San Jose has found enough offense to keep themselves alive. Amarikwa is the reason for this resurgence. The Rapids proved stingy with the goals, but once again Amarikwa was involved this goal getting the ball to Goodson who served the Rapids another plate of reality as the Rapids continue to be unable to fire on all cylinders.
Fantasy Standouts
- Quincy Amarikwa ($7.0): It’s not a question of if he’s going to score this weekend, but how many goals he’s going to score. The other question is who do you dare drop from your forward core? Definitely not Kamara or Villa.
Fantasy Letdowns
- Colorado Rapids: Their crowning achievement used to be the defense, but they can’t bring that consistently anymore either so there’s not much to look at here.
- San Jose Earthquakes Defense: With Jordan Stewart out out for the rest of the season and not the most prolific attack in MLS ,I don’t see a shutout this week. That being said Goodson is always a threat to score on set pieces and could be a good punt.
New York Red Bulls 3 vs. Toronto FC 0
Highlights
On the heels of Giovinco’s sublime performance that warranted a must have price tag, Toronto’s attack was absent. BWP wasn’t absent though, as he led Red Bulls attack along with his brother SWP and Mike Grella. The Red Bulls were also missing 3 out of 4 regular starters, but somehow managed to keep a clean sheet against Toronto FC, while they had all 3 DPs on the field. I’m not going to say anything, except I don’t have faith in Toronto right now.
Fantasy Standouts
- Bradley Wright-Phillips ($11.2): He took 7 shots apart from the 1 goal he scored, which is great for Draft Kings if you started playing. Outside of Draft King he will continue to score more goals with the recent form of the players around him as well as with the new arrival of Veron.
- Matt Miazga ($6.0): Miazga is the leader at 19 in one of the league’s most in form defenses. They’re on a bye, but Miazga will be good after the WC Round.
Fantasy Letdowns
- Sebastian Giovinco ($12.9): let’s start with the absurd price tag attached to Giovinco. Yes he put out a must have performance, but it was only so must have because everyone had him. Most people still do, but if you’re someone like me who didn’t have him last round, you benefited because the money he freed up allowed you to capitalize on guys like Villa and Keane. That’s all I’m going to say.
Houston Dynamo 0 vs. New England Revolution 2
Highlights
The Revolution are starting to hit their stride again and at the right time. They’ve gone into the playoffs hot before and it looks like it will happen again. The Dynamo, however, struggled to find any sort of form. They have Torres, but don’t seem to think he’s more effective than any of the front 3 or 4 they’ve been using, which will continue to be a problem, as it clearly isn’t working. If Torres gets into the lineup they may just get that new look they need, I’d like to see them try.
Fantasy Standouts
- Lee Nguyen ($11.2): Nguyen is leading the offense back to the same place it was last year. Everyone’s been talking about how Nguyen needs to step it up and he’s been doing just that and for a much more reasonable price than most of the other leagues goal scorers right now. The rest of the Revs offense is still just too unpredictable to bank on so focus on Nguyen if anything.
Fantasy Letdowns
- Dynamo Offense: Like I said something needs to happen. Barnes, Davis and Bruin are dangerous, but it’s not working right now. Put in Torres more consistently and give him a chance, because Bruin needs help up top and Barnes does so well connecting the midfield to the attack.
That’s the breakdown for the first half of Round 10. What do you think? Did any players jump out at you who you think deserve to be highlighted?
