MLS Fantasy Review Round 24 (Part 2)

MLS Fantasy Review Round 14

Vancouver Whitecaps 3 vs. Sporting Kansas City 4

Highlights

Nagamura warranted such a long picture. He was the man this weekend (that doesn’t mean I suggest picking him up). If you didn’t watch this game then stop reading right now and go watch the highlights. One of many thrillers this weekend, but SKC coming from 3-1 down to win it 4-3 was crazy, epic and indescribable. What we got from this game was that the Whitecaps aren’t as awesome as we thought they were and Manneh is starting to make people salivate (Oh and Feilhaber is still going strong).

Fantasy Standouts

  • Kekuta Manneh ($7.5): If you got on the Manneh train I applaud you. 5, 7 and 16! That’s a good average and what was even more encouraging was his 3 attacking BPs. What I’m saying is if you wanna spend big on the midfield instead of the FWDs look to Manneh for a bargain.
  • Benny Feilhaber ($10.8): Benny is Benny that’s all I can say at this point in the season. (8, 12, 8 are his last 3 scores in case you were wondering).

Fantasy Letdowns

  • Defense: a 4-3 scoreline pretty much sums it up. Ellis seems like a good pick for this upcoming DGW, but buyer beware: he’s 1 YC away from a suspension.

FC Dallas 1 vs. Los Angeles Galaxy 2

Highlights

The picture is of Gerrard because 1. I could find a good pic of Keane and 2. Gerrard has been putting his body on the line for the Galaxy even at his age and he’s earning a lot of respect for it. This game appeared to be a clash of 2 contenders for the cup and the Supporter’s Shield, however, the Galaxy completely outperformed behind 2 Keane goals.

Fantasy Standouts

  • Robbie Keane ($11.9): Well 2 goals are 2 goals and a scoreline of 6, 12, 12 is also pretty good. With the DGW coming up you may be wary to spend on a SGW, but I don’t think you’ll regret it.
  • Giovani Dos Santos ($10.2): He got 11 last week and 5 this week. His scores haven’t been as jaw dropping as Keane’s, but it’s looking like Dos Santos is most definitely going to be a big part of the offense and he could’ve had a goal instead of assisting on Keane’s goal.

Fantasy Letdowns

  • FC Dallas: Until last week I was very high on FC Dallas, but they seem to have hit a bit of a speed bump. Diaz didn’t play this week and Castillo couldn’t do it on his own. I don’t think it will last long so keep an eye on the performances as the offense should come back and guys like Kellyn Acosta could become great budget options for your team.

Portland Timbers 1 vs. Real Salt Lake 0

Highlights

Borchers was the man. If you didn’t already know this was the story of Nat Borchers (Ex-RSL defender) who broke his old team’s heart with a winning header at the death. RSL actually out played the Timbers in my opinion, but were still missing the finishing touch. Garcia, Jaime and Morales didn’t have it and it’s apparent RSL is struggling for answers. That being said the Timbers offense isn’t exactly doing great, when their only goal comes from their defender in the dying seconds.

Fantasy Standouts

  • Nat Borchers ($8.4): 8, 7, 13. I bet you didn’t realize those were his last 3 scores. I didn’t until I just looked it up, but at $8.4 he’s not a bad grab for the recent performances. The Timbers may not have great offense right now, but the defense is proving stingy.

Fantasy Letdowns

  • Offense: the only offense was from the defense, and the offense wasn’t finishing anything so that’s that.

Seattle Sounders 4  vs. Orlando City SC 0

Highlights

The Sounders have returned!!!!!!!!!! This game made me so happy I was almost standing the whole game and I was at home watching it. I’m also a Sounders fan so we’ll get that bias out of the way right now. But seriously the Sounders looked like a man on a mission and that was still missing Dempsey, putting Brad Evans back into the midfield and adding two brand new pieces to the starting XI. The chemistry was there immediately on offense and defense. The offense looked electric and the defense kept the Lions to 0 shots on goal. There’s nothing to be said about Orlando City as they need help right now.

Fantasy Standout

  • Obafemi Martins ($11.8): Oba is a must have in my opinion with the way the Sounders are looking. I say that as a Sounders fan not as an advice giver. However, I guarantee you that he will score, but maybe wait till after the CCL games this week to see how Sounders’ depth holds up. (Keep an eye on Valdez)
  • Sounders’ Defense: Torres is on the pricy side, but it paid off if you took a chance (ME!) when he got that assist at the end. Really though any defender could be good and if Oneil Fisher manages to lockdown the left back spot, that’s someone people will have to consider. However, for now just keep watch on him.

Fantasy Letdowns

  • Orlando City SC: Kaka and Larin both came off early, which spoke to the kind of night they were having after the early Turner red card. We’ll see how Orlando rebounds.

Chicago Fire 3  vs. Philadelphia Union 3

Highlights

This game was the other thriller of the weekend. It was unfortunate that the Fire dropped a point late, but even more unfortunate that the Union scored 3, and still lost at home. Maidana was the star on the night assisting on all 3 goals. I don’t trust the Fire offense still, but if I had to bet on somebody right now it would be Maidana. (Oh and did I mention Sean Johnson is the reason the Fire came away with anything?)

Fantasy Standouts

  • Cristian Maidana ($9.5): 9, 6, 16. those are his last 3 and there’s no reason to think he’ll stop. Maidana is hitting his form right now, watch out. I think they have a decent chance against Montreal next week too.
  • Kennedy Igboananike ($7.5): Igbo is very cheap and would be a great option in the upcoming DGW after this week, if he shows his brace was no fluke.

Fantasy Letdowns

  • Defense: This was a recurring theme this weekend as a lot of defenses were either superb or absolutely horrible as it was with this game.

That’s the breakdown for the first half of Round 10. What do you think? Did any players jump out at you who you think deserve to be highlighted?
