Player Positional Rankings: MLS Fantasy Round 16

Isaac Jensen ~ @ZenVikingFC on Discord

No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. There are indeed only five matches this round. Welcome to international breaks in MLS.

The limited amount of matches and large list of called up players can make these rounds super chalky, with everyone’s roster ending up with the ‘best’ of who is still in town to play, but that also makes these rounds an excellent opportunity to go differential and try to move up the rankings. In an already impossible to predict league, these rounds are even more chaotic. Form goes right out the window, as the starting XI’s will be full of names you’ve never seen before. So why not throw caution to the wind and put a few of these no names on your bench? What’s the worst thing that could happen…

In all seriousness, it is crucial to check lineups in these kinds of rounds, and be prepared to pivot. While we do our best to keep tabs on all the call-ups, it can be very difficult to find good and accurate information regarding anything having to do with MLS. We do our best, but don’t be surprised if someone you’ve picked isn’t in the matchday squad.

It’s also perfectly fine to play it safe and stick with the chalk in your starting XI this week, and keep the ‘differentials’ on your bench. With how limited the options are, rankings won’t shift that much, and odds are the sleeper pick you’ve got your eye on is already on your H2H opponents bench. With everyone having nearly the same roster, moving up will be difficult, but a couple of bad picks can send you falling.

Big shout out to Brandon from the MLSFB Discord community for putting together this list of international call-ups!
