We are in the home stretch, with only four rounds to go. Now is the time for some calculated risks to try and gain some rank. Conversely, if you’re already in a prize position, it may instead be time to play it safe and stick with chalk. Playing it safe also comes with risks, however, as we’ve seen several times this year when popular picks drop a dud.
MLS is already impossible to predict, and the playoff push makes it even more so. Some teams kick into high gear (such as Vancouver dropping a touchdown and extra point on Philadelphia), and others choke on the pressure and desperation (dare I say Miami may be in that category?). Unfortunately, there are no measurable metrics or stats for these things. There’s no column on FBref for xChoke or ISUA (Individual Stepping-Up Actions). The only effective way I know to measure these things is through the eye test, as body language, both individually and collectively as a team, can speak volumes.
Note:(?) means the player might not start due to injury, lack of fitness, availability status or loss of starting spot. (OOP) means the player is expected to play out of position. (YCW) means the player is one booking away from suspension. (+) means the player is ranked only if they become available for selection before their match locks.
