Well, that was fun. I’m pretty sure MLS Fantasy isn’t supposed to feel like having both your Tibias shattered by an overzealous Roger Espinoza two-footer, but I’m willing to try new things. Also, for those of us in need of a good therapist after what I’m officially calling “The Round 4 Experience,” I’m afraid fantasy-related emotional trauma falls outside a realm in which most health insurance carriers are willing to operate. Luckily we have the MLS Fantasy Boss Discord Community, which exists to help us overcome any crippling disappointment we might be coping with as we prepare for the next round of MLS Fantasy. But regardless of injury status, we’ve got a game to play, people! So roll over, reach into the physio’s medical bag, pull out that can of magic spray and empty the entire thing on those former shins. And as you attempt to stand, praying that your shin guards will double as field splints, try to forget that crunching Round 4 tackle ever happened. You’ve got this!
Hopefully my little pep talk at the end there worked, and we’re all entering MLS Fantasy Round 5 with newfound optimism, because it’s especially important that we remain optimistic this week, ready to meet any challenges the round might present. You know, like the challenge of fielding a decent fantasy squad during an international window. That’s right, it’s our favorite type of round, where most MLS teams will be rolling out their B squads because their best players have been called up for international duty.
At this point you might be thinking, “Great! Thanks a lot, Christian. Just yank that rug of optimism you so expertly weaved in the first paragraph right out from under us!” And I’d probably respond to that totally legitimate thought by thinking back, “But wait, I can explain!” And since I’m pretty sure none of us were born on the planet Vulcan, I’ll just type the explanation. You see, the international window is actually a good thing for fantasy. It reveals some clear deficiencies we can exploit, which provides us with a great opportunity to move up in rank if you pick your players accordingly. It’s my job to help you make those picks.
By the way, Round 5 brings the added bonus of having two teams on a bye, Inter Miami CF and New England Revolution. Players from these two teams will not earn fantasy points, but they are useful as scrubs if you’re running a switcheroo, autoroo or keeperoo. As always, be sure to check lineups this weekend!
