MLS Fantasy Round 9 should yield plenty of actual, bona fide fantasy points. I keep repeating this mantra while I rank players this week. It’s very important to remain positive in these situations, especially when your Spidey Sense keeps piping up every third player saying, “Nope, that one’s a trap.” This season has been unusually difficult in terms of identifying who the consistent producers are. Some of the most obvious picks will simply underperform for no discernable reason at all, while others you’d never consider end up posting double-digit scores. It’s frustrating.
When the chaos factor is this high, I’ve found the best way to move on from a bad round is to … well, just move on. If you know why your picks failed in the previous round, bank that information and apply it going forward. Otherwise, completely forget about the last round. Put it out of your mind. Approach the next one as if it’s Round 1 in a new season, and you have the advantage of having scouted all the relevant players ahead of time. This is the approach I’ve taken when creating this round’s Player Positional Rankings.
Note:(?) means the player might not start due to injury, lack of fitness, availability status or loss of starting spot. (OOP) means the player is expected to play out of position.
