There are only 2 gameweeks left in the fantasy spring season and gameweek 14 is the best opportunity for those who want to cover serious ground or for those who want to leave their nemesis in the dust. It’s the biggest gameweek left so there are plenty of good captain choices you can choose from to gain an edge over your opponents.
1) Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney has scored in each of his past 2 games and could really pick up on his recent form with 2 fixtures at home against Chicago Fire and San Jose Earthquakes who still have an idea of uncertainty about them. His current tally is 8 goals and 3 assists in 14 games. The only concern here is that the teams in the east are in really bad form against the teams in the west. All the Eastern Conference teams except New York Red Bulls who played Western conference teams last week either drew or lost.
2) Jonathan Dos Santos
Jonathan Dos Santos is a safe captain choice this week with his relatively high floor. He has consistently scored at least 5 points every time he has played 90 minutes in a game. He has scores of 7 and 12 in the past two games after coming back from injury which included a goal against Orlando City last week and is guaranteed to get bonus points every time he plays and could even possibly chip in with a goal. It’s a good choice for those who want to hold onto their rank.
3) Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The lion is back after 2 weeks of rest due to the 2 game suspension he received for his antics in the NYCFC game. Zlatan would’ve ranked higher for me if he wasn’t so reliant on penalties for many of goals. His current tally stands at 9 goals and 2 assists in 10 games out of which 5 goals are penalties. He will rely on his ability to earn penalties and bury them and to be honest, he is not bad at it at all. Of course, there will always be some luck involved too but he should fire with 2 good games at his disposal this week.
4) Josef Martinez
Josef Martinez is setting into his old shooting boots again and is usually prolific in home games. He has two home games this week against Minnesota United and Chicago fire this week and could possibly go big. This captain pick is purely hit or miss and could either give you a big push up the rankings or it could really pull you down.
5) Johnny Russell
Johnny Russell makes the list mainly due to his exploits last week where he scored a hat-trick against the Seattle Sounders. He only had 1 assist in the past 5 games before that. Russell could easily build from last week’s momentum and with Sporting Kansas City slowly regaining some of their starters, all he can do is improve from here onwards.
