Round 28 in the MLS gets underway tonight, So I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this week , could see you claw back points on the leaders of your league , or even extend the gap at the top. Here’s my top four picks for this week.
David Villa / NYCFC / $9.1 million / vs New England and DC (H)
The Spaniard failed to find the back of the net in his last outing for NYCFC. David Villa hasn’t been in the greatest form during the summer , the forward has only managed to score two goals in his last seven appearances for the blues. However them two goals have come in his last four games after he missed seven games through injury last month. So with two back to back games his round against New England and DC United , it should give the forward a chance to build on his 10 goals this season. NYCFC will be clear favourites heading into the clash against New England, The Revs haven’t won a game in the league since July 1st , nine games ago. So a winnable game on paper for the Blues. On the other hand DC head in to the game off the back of a big win against Atlanta in round 27. However one clean sheet in 14 games for DC should give Villa and NYCFC encouragement.
Wayne Rooney / DC United / $11.3 Million / vs NYCFC (A)
It seems the signing of Wayne Rooney has not just boosted DC’s attacking threat , he has boosted the whole club. United have won four out of their last six league games and pulled off a great win against second place Atlanta in the last round. On a personal note Rooney would have been pleased to bag himself a goal after going three matches without finding the back of the net. However even though the Englishman did pick up 18 points last week , he had averaged just 2.6 points per game in his last three matches. NYCFC will offer DC problems in the game , plus home advantage, but Rooney is a big game player so may just come up with something special in the “Big Apple”.
Maximiliano Moralez / NYCFC / $10.9 Million / vs New England and DC (H)
The second of our New York trio his week is Maximiliano Moralez. The midfielder has been off the pace he set earlier in the season, managing only one goal in his last nine appearances. Plus he has failed to make double figures in the last six rounds , which is a poor return for a player who is priced around that $11. Million mark most game weeks. However with two favourable match up this week against a winless New England and a DC side who struggle to keep the ball out of their goal , Moralez should be aiming to find that impressive form shown earlier in the year.
Alexander Ring / NYCFC / $6.8 Million / vs New England and DC (H) (Wildcard)
Alexander Ring is priced at $6.8 million this week. He offers both value and quality which makes him a great wildcard option this round. If you are unsure on Villa starting both games and Moralez’s form than Ring could be a safer option this week. He could also provide an upside of a clean sheet bonus as he maybe deployed at CB at some point his round. Both games are winnable for NYCFC and Ring should be a key part in a important round for the Blues.
