A lot of 1-1 games this past week left many people cursing their TVs this week as they watched their clean sheet points disappear. But that happens. There are a couple of things I want to point out before we get into the article, 1) International duty is here. So make sure you keeper is not off representing his country and 2) you could find some nice differentials in the sub keepers this week, but I won’t be covering them because it seems silly to trade out just for 1 week.
Big 3
Tally Hall (HOU v VAN), Jimmy Nielsen (SKC vs NER), and Bill Hamid (DC vs CLB).
Keep reading for the rest.
Troy Perkins (Montreal) vs New York
Price: $5.1m
Owned by: 17.2%
I know I’m trying harder to focus on the less obvious choices, but there are few keepers so I feel like I have to go with who stands out. If you say that Montreal has not been impressive this year, then I don’t know where you have been. They are the only team with 3 wins and Perkins has only let in 2 shots so far. New York has struggled against San Jose and DC, both teams with stronger defenses than Portland. New York will be one of the tougher teams Montreal has played so far, but Troy Perkins seems to be up to the challenge.
Carlo Cudicini (LA Galaxy) vs Colorado
Price: $5.5m
Owned by: 7.0%
LA had a big shock when Chivas was able to knock home a goal in the closing minutes of their game last week. I think it’s safe to say that Bruce Arena will be working with his defense to try to prevent something like that happening again. Colorado has a struggling offense, and should pose little danger to Cudicini and the rest of LA’s defense.
Bill Hamid (DC United) vs Columbus
Price: $5.2m
Owned by: 18.9%
I know, another player that seems like a no brainer. I went through a couple versions of this list, and I just can’t not put him on it. He’s had two fantastic games so far this year and I honestly thought he would get called up to the national team after his game against New York. Columbus is a team that can score, but DC has a not let a goal in since opening week. If you have Hamid and another good keeper option (like me) you will have a tough choice this week.
Differential
Dan Kennedy (Chivas) vs Chivas
Price: $5.0m
Owned by: 8.0%
There are 2 reasons Kennedy makes my list this week. 1) He and the Chivas defense played well against LA last week. 2) They are playing Chicago, and Chicago has not scored this year. This added confidence and struggling competition could be just the right combination for a strong Chivas defensive result.
These are my picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post. You can also leave a message on our Facebook page. Keep checking back for more updates through the week for other positions.
