We’ve reached a point in the season where budget constraints are no longer a major factor for most fantasy managers. Yeah, okay, I’m sure some of us still feel like we’re languishing inside the poverty zone, but the reality is pretty much anyone sitting at or above the $115m mark should be able to build a competitive fantasy squad now.
That said, if you’re among those still experiencing financial Armageddon, rest assured that things aren’t as apocalyptic as they might seem. There’s still time to remedy your monetary predicament, but that window is rapidly closing. It’s been our experience that you have until Round 10 to hit the $125m mark, or you’ll likely never catch up if you’re playing the long game. So if this is you, don’t hesitate. Take a look at this masterclass, then hop over to the MLSFB Discord and ask a bunch of questions. We’ll help you get where you need to be.
Anyway, now that absolutely everyone’s totally rich (except for the ones who aren’t), I’ve decided to change the list format to reflect true rankings regardless of player value. This decision was always in the works for Round 10 or so, but it got a boost due to some feedback I received after ranking a few players as budget picks who really should’ve been listed in comparison to everyone else. This change should eliminate that specific confusion going forward. I’ll still include budget picks in separate lists for each position, but those lists will only include maybe one or two players I think are worth mentioning. I’m also going to limit sleeper picks to three or fewer players at each position. I’m sure there will be exceptions to everything I just said, but that’s the plan going forward.
Also, if I don’t rank a player at all it’s because I don’t think they’re a particularly good pick. Of course you’re totally free to make a case for any player you believe should be included or ranked differently, but you should be aware that I’m a rather stubborn and surly guy, and it’s likely we’ll end up fighting in some weird fantasy cage match on Discord involving wit, guile and way too many dad jokes. And let’s be honest, you’d probably win the cage match and I’d still refuse to change the lists because I’m also a sore loser. But hey, just know that my virtual door is always open, and I totally welcome your constructive feedback (cough).
SPECIAL NOTE:
We’re entering that time in each season when severe weather conditions become a major chaos variable to consider when assessing matchups and building a squad. Chances are pretty good that at least one match per round will feature a “fantasy-inconvenient” weather event, usually starting in April and lasting through September. So, going forward we should expect matches to be delayed, postponed and/or abandoned due to weather, and we should make our picks accordingly. Thank goodness we’re lucky enough to have an in-house meteorologist (@Storminator) who provides the MLSFB Discord community with some remarkably accurate matchday forecasts.
By the way, did I mention we have a totally essential Discord community?
