2018 Round 26 Captain’s conundrum

Round 26 in the MLS gets underway tonight, So I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this week , could see you claw back points on the leaders of your league , or even extend the gap at the top. Here’s my top four picks for this week.

Bradley Wright-Phillips / NYRB / $10.4 Million / vs NYCFC (A) – DC (H)

It is a double game week for the Redbulls this round. Bradley Wright-Phillips has been steady in recent weeks, not quite as hot as the likes of Josef Martinez or Ibra , but only one player has scored more league goals than BWP this Season.
Their first task is against bitter local rivals NYCFC tonight , whom have been off the pace in recent weeks. The Redbulls may look at this game as a good time to play their rivals who have only won one of their last four games , conceding nine goals during this period. NYCFC did also give up two goals against the Union , who are among the lowest scores in the Eastern Conference , only the Crew have scored less.

On the other hand, facing DC United this week maybe the worst time to host United. DC have won three games on the bounce and will be a tough task, however one clean sheet in 15 games is a big issue for United. BWP should play close to the full 180 minutes , and 15 goals in 24 matches this season would suggest that he is highly likely to score in one of the two games.

Daniel Royer / NYRB / $9.5 Million / vs NYCFC (A) – DC (H)

Another Redbulls player that is a good captain choice this round is Daniel Royer. Four goals in his last three games makes him hot. The midfielder has averaged an impressive 10.3 points in the last three weeks .
NYCFC won the most recent game between the two clubs in a 1-0 win in July. However only one win in the last four games should encourage the Redbulls. While DC United’s shaky defensive record could get exposed by NYRB forwards and Royer will be key in both games.

Josef Martinez / Atlanta / $12.5 Million / vs Orlando (A)

The leading goal scorer in the MLS just continues to find the back of the net. He has scored in eight consecutive matches , not only that, he managed to find the back of the net 13 times in his last eight games.
This week Atlanta face Orlando, who have not won a game in their last five matches . Their last win came against Toronto in the middle of July. More worryingly their have conceded15 goals in their last five matches, and the one player you do not want to face with a unsettled defence which lacks confidence is Martinez.

Alejandro Romero Gamarra / NYRB / $9.8 Million / vs NYCFC (A) – DC (H) (Wildcard)

Kaku makes it a hat trick of Redbulls players this week. The midfielder has not scored a league goal since week 10 ,which isn’t great from the Redbulls man. However this last goal did come against NYCFC , which may be a good omen for this round.
Two tough games for NYRB this round , but big player step up at crucial moments in the season and this week maybe Kaku’s round to end that goal drought and help revenge the derby defeat from last month.
