The MLS returns for its 23rd season on Saturday , So I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this round could see you jump-start your fantasy season and leave your rivals chasing you all season long. Here’s my top four picks for this week.
Seattle / $11 Million / M / vs Cincinnati (H)
The Uruguayan recorded his highest goal scoring season last year with nine goals. This alongside his 12 assists helped the midfielder averaged a pretty impressive 9.52 fantasy points in the 2018 season. Seattle were one of the best sides in the Western conference last season only SKC , Atlanta and NYRB averaged more points per game than the Sounders last year.
The Sounders opponents are Cincinnati who make their MLS debut. Cincinnati will also have a number of players making debuts , so the new players may still need time to adjust to teammates and the manager. While arguably Cincinnati have had the better of pre-seasons , Seattle have the quality and experience with the likes of Loderio to cause problems.
Galaxy / $11 Million / F / vs Chicago (H)
The 37 year old is still going strong and all the talk has been about him setting new records rather than retiring, suggesting Ibrahimovic still feels fit and strong. 22 goals in 27 appearances showed Galaxy fans he has still got the star quality to lead their front line.
He averaged last season 8.19 fantasy points, with a high score of 22. Galaxy’s opponents Chicago fire conceded an average of 1.79 goals per game last season. While the Galaxy scored an average of 1.94 goals per game. Its also worth noting Ibrahimovic should be as fresh and fit as he has been in years , So he is worth considering.
Seattle / $10.5 Million / M / vs Cincinnati (H)
The Peruvian made an instant impact in the second half of season last year. 13 goals in 16 appearances proves he has the talent to match the likes of Ibrahimovic ,J.Martinez and BWP . It’s the perfect match up at home to MLS ‘newbies’ Cincinnati.
Seattle averaged 1.52 goals a game last season , and will be looking to start the season well against underdogs Cincinnati. However the Sounders did lose five home games last season , only four other teams in the western conference lost more , which is surprising for a side who finished second. So Ruidiaz and Seattle might not be a lock for captain.
Atlanta / $10.5 Million / M / vs DC (A)
Pity Martinez has arrived in Atlanta with big boots to fill. As Miguel Almiron left to join Newcastle United in the Premier League . Atlanta averaged an impressive 2.05 goals per game last season and if Martinez can have the same exposure to attacking opportunities and set pieces as the Paraguayan did in United’s attack.
Then Martinez is very much in the conversation of, who to make your captain in the opening round of the 2019 MLS season.
