Round 2 in the MLS gets underway tomorrow, So I have taken a look at the best options to make your Fantasy captain this week. Picking the right captain this week , could see you claw back points on the leaders of your league , or even extend the gap at the top. Here’s my top picks for this week.
Nicolas Lodeiro / Seattle / M / $11.5 Million / vs Colorado (H)
He returned 14 points in Seattle’s win over Cincinnati in round one. Lodeiro, who already has two assists will want to continue his good start in a good spot at home to Colorado in round two. Seattle were the highest scoring team of the opening weekend after putting four past MLS ‘newbies’ Cincinnati .
Statistically its also a good spot for Seattle and Lodeiro as opponents Colorado only managed to win two away games in the league last season. While Seattle have managed to win nine out off their last 11 games at CenturyLink field.
Carlos Vela / LAFC / F / $10.8 Million / vs Portland (H)
Carlos Vela and LAFC had a tough season opener against SKC . However LAFC managed to steal all three points with a 94th minute winner. Vela only returned four points and has seen his price dropped $200K heading in to week two against Portland Timbers.
However Vela’s effect on the game wasn’t reflected in-terms of fantasy points. It is worth noting his involvement and importance to LAFC’s attack. Opponents Portland showed their ability to win on the road last season with wins over Seattle , SKC and FC Dallas. However LAFC will be hoping their can build on their win against play-off rivals SKC.
Josef Martinez / Atlanta / F / $10.6 Million / vs Cincinnati (H)
After a record breaking season last year from Martinez , it was a surprised not to see the forward on the score sheet. A blank in round one has seen his price dropped by $400k after only returning two points against DC.
However Atlanta will be pleased to be back at home and in a match up their will be firm favourites for the win. Their opponents Cincinnati had a difficult start to life in the MLS in a 4-1 defeat to Seattle, and a trip to face Atlanta certainly won’t be an easier test for the ‘newbies’.
Alexandru Mitrita / NYCFC / F / $10.4 Million / vs DC (H)
Alexandru Mitrita returned nine points on his debut for NYCFC after registering an assist against Orlando in round one. Its another first for Mitrita, who will make his debut in front of his home fans, will want to make a good impression. However opponents DC will be full of confidence after beating Atlanta in round one. So it might not be a perfect home debut for Mitrita.
