2020 Fantasy Schedule: First Draft

Welcome back MLS Fantasy managers! I’m happy to see you have retained your manager position (for now!) and are ready to start planning for the 2020 MLS Fantasy Season.

The 2020 Fantasy Schedule was released a TODAY and, for me, that the unofficial start of the MLS Fantasy Season. Why? Because that means it’s time to create the first draft of my prediction for the Fantasy Season Schedule.

How the Fantasy Season Works

In 2019, the fantasy season was divided into 2 seasons (Spring and Fall). Each season, fantasy managers attempted to use their budget to create a team that they thought could generate the most points for that round and the players with the most points and the end of the half season won prizes. At the time of posting this article, I have no idea if there are going to be any changes to the 2020 game.

2020 Fantasy Schedule

Below is my first draft at predicting how the fantasy season will be divided in 2020. I base this prediction on previous seasons but there is always the potential that something could change to better accommodate the plans of MLS.

Rounds that start on a weekend on labeled with orange. Rounds that start on Wednesday are labeled with green. Our lone Thursday starting round is labeled with purple.

If you see any mistakes, please let me know and I’ll put it on my to-do list for the next draft update!

Initial Takeaways?

  • Fewer rounds begin on the mid-week which is good for managers who like to take a little more time to think about their team and wait for injury reports/rumors.
  • An even number of teams has helped to reduce the number of Bye rounds. This could make switcheroos more difficult to plan but definitely helps with player availability.
  • Welcome Miami and Nashville. No warm-up period for either team.
